RIP Chester Bennington, who hung himself after struggling with depression for much of his life. I guess I never realized how genuine the emotional torture was behind the music all these years.

Yes. When I kick the bucket, I want that song played at my memorial.

Now you're talking! That is my kind of music. Depression is a tough thing, I know because I suffer from clinical depression, and meds don't help much. I try to combat my condition by loving music and humor.

There are a bunch of people in here that I know but most I've never heard of before. That's one of the things I like about music, so many styles, individual expression within schools and every once in a while something completely different

    New and upcoming album releases

My entry for this thread is a song probably most people have heard of, Chicago's Feeling Stronger Every Day, but this a rare studio outtake, done just to test the headphone levels.

One take, no overdubs, 1-2-3, play your instruments and sing. Terry Kath momentarily misfingers a chord, resulting in a dissonance for a fraction of a second that would never have been allowed on a studio album.

This is how true musicians ply their craft!

I heard this composition on Pandora today and I'm absolutely obsessed with it now. The video I'm linking is low in volume, so you'll have to turn it up in order to appreciate it fully. It's really moving.

Seems a celebration of the instruments. Not the movie theme at all.

I offer this as a 'try not to dance/sing' challenge. Go ahead. Just you TRY to sit still while listening to this classic earworm!

My all-time favorite song (of this week) is "Gentle Arms of Eden" by Carter & Grammar. YouTube here; starts at 1:25.

There is a terrific folk dance to this, as well.
Dave Carter died at a very young age not long after this was recorded.

Best Blues Concertina performance - and yes, I know it's probably a very small category! I think Robert Johnson, who composed the song - and made the first recording of it in 1936 - and Elmore James, who made a classic version in 1951, would both have approved.

I've been surfing Brazilian sites lately. Brazil has a wonderful number of women harmonica players - REALLY good ones!
Best one, hands down: Indiara Sfair Here she is, with her C minor improvisation.

She's playing a B-flat harp in C minor - aka "Third position" as some blues players (including yours truly) call it. Other Brazilian harp players (women) you might like:

    Marianna Borsato
    Sarah Messias
    Natasha Seara

Google "gaitistas mulheres" (women harp-players) and you'll find lots.

I know I'm dating myself with this post (it only came out a couple decades before I was born...), but I absolutely love this song, and I love this particular performance. Ronnie Spector is stunningly beautiful and her facial expressions in this clip are just adorable.

Hype song for a distance education website that isn't my favorite.

But as a song, and ten years later, you have to admit it bops.

I've never seen the musical Cats, but I remember hearing part of this song in a commercial years ago. Without warning, it came to my head again and yadda yadda yadda, I've listened to it a few dozen times this week alone- it's so freaking catchy!!!. I think I have to see the whole musical (so glad the 1998 filmed-on-stage version exists!) one of these days.
