I just canceled my land-line telephone and satelite TV

I am aware of that, that's why I'm waiting for my contract to expire in May. I will be pulling the plug on my landline and cable tv on 9/6. We'll just have high speed with a skype phone. We decided we wanted to have a "land line" because a Skype line is cheaper than a cell phone. We're going to keep an expired cell phone next to the Skype Phone for emergency use; in addition, we have 3 active cell phones in the house.

I have used all the carriers so I try to keep several inactive phones from different networks for emergency, and donate the rest. You can get a current model phone by buying one of the pay as you go phones and not paying to keep it active

I've used Virgin Mobile for several years and have been very pleased with the service. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than going with a contract service.

I have been using Skype for my telephone and Roku to watch Hulu and Netflix for a couple of weeks now and I'm happy with my choice. I can safely say that I do not miss my satellite TV or my landline telephone at all!

Man it feels good to occasionally make the right decision. Wish all of my decisions in life had worked out this well.

 

About 2 months ago I called Dish and dropped our package to the 14.99 package (cheaper to keep and pay that for the next 11 months than cancel and pay fee) and got a Roku HD and signed up for Hulu, already had netflix(free) and amazon prime. We currently pay about 35.00 for TV and that will drop to 8 bucks once we rid of dish. I am happy with Roku and can't believe I waited so long to do this! I don't watch TV much anyway so this is perfect for me and since we have it my son doesn't watch anything but Netflix.

Here is something you should know though since I don't see it listed anywhere else. The majority of internet companies will have a limit on how many GB you can use monthly before you start getting charged. I had no clue about this until someone mentioned being charged for it. I currently have a 19.99 promo with ATT and theirs is 150 GB monthly. Roku obviously streams over the net so it adds to your usage. I saw to figure about 1 GB per hour of streaming you do. I have had it for 2 months and not had any issues so far.
