Anyone use this? I don't see any reason to join Ace Trancripts Services. They charge 40 dollars to join, plus anytime you order transcripts from them, they charge 15 dollars. I can see this if you have scattered credits that Ace can accept. Clep charges 20 bucks per transcript but you don't have to submit 40 bucks to join them either. They only hold the transcript for 20 years. I guess when 20 years are up, I'll join them.

    Greetings.

The last time I used the transcript service provided by ACE was twelve years ago. I confess that I have not spent the last twelve years monitoring both ACE and the changing norms of higher education in the USA as they might pertain to ACE transcripts, so my information might be obsolete.

Back when my hair was both plentiful and only one color, if one wished to earn credits for an “ACE reviewed” course or test, one needed to first have the information put on one’s ACE transcript and then have the transcript sent to one’s college. An ACE transcript was a necessity, not an option. Have things changed?

I infer from your post that you have not yet used the ACE transcript service. I base my assumption on the fact that you are complaining about their prices (which I cannot verify), rather than their service. My lingering memories of ACE, few though they may be, do not portray ACE as being an efficiently run, customer focused institution. Put another way, the question is not only whether you need an ACE transcript, but also whether and when they will deign to send one. Plan carefully and make allowances for delays.

    Cordially,
    Richard Kanarek

Twas not complaining, but rather, just not feasable to join them from what I see. I used Navy and Marine Corps SMARTS to enter military training and an associates I got while in. No need for paying ACE to keep my track of my transcripts. I have an FAA license which ACE claims to accept 55 credits, but I have an AAS in Aviation Mx Technology, which transcripts there are shown from that school if I need to submit them with all my aviation training. My Spanish Clep is 20 bucks to have them send a transcript, which is the only cost I see. So in response, its not the money factor, its just the fact that I don't need them. I can see this service being acceptable to someone that has a bunch of training accepted and evaluated by ACE as a bank like in some college.

It is not $40 to join ACE, but $40 for the first transcript you order from them no matter how many credits you have with them at that point. Any subsequent transcripts from them are $15. I am waiting until I have all of the courses I need on there before I pay my $40.

ACE provides several valuable services, only one of which is the transcript service. Their credit evaluation service is a widely recognized process for recognizing college credit gained by both traditional and non traditional means. Go through their site, you will find thousands of hours of validated college credit from the federal government, private businesses like Delta Airlines, and education companies like ALEKS (McGraw Hill) and Straighterline.

The credit banking and transcript service is actually quite cheap and to some invaluable as there would be no credit recomendation for some things otherwise.

I don't really understand the genesis of this thread...dis you not understand and post seeking clarification (great if so!). Or did you just feel like busting on a 60 some odd year old institution that has helped thousands of people????

For a Bachelors degree you will need about 120 credits, arounf 30 of those at the upper level (300-400 level classes) and about 30 in general ed's like history and english comp. The rest can likely be in applied professional credits like your aviation degree. Let's say for some reason a dozen of those AS degree credits didn't count at your institution....wouldn't it be great to have ACE recognize the FAA cert you hold and get those 12 credits for that you've already earned counted for just $40? That a benefit of the ACE system. Life is better with options...ACE is an option. If it works for you great! If it doesn't work for you...great!

I kinda dig the ghetto brands of peanut butter...they tend to screw with it less and just sell you what your looking for.

I know ACE is and provides a great service. I know they do what a school does, they hold your credits like a bank. And when you need transcripts from them, they will send them for a fee. I could throw my Airframe and Powerplant License FAA license in there and they credit like 55 credits. I wonder if they still post that. They approve the license for 55 credits maybe it was higher? Maybe it was 65 or 70 I can't honestly remember, but that doesn't mean a school will give you those credits either. That's up to the school. All I was saying is I don't need that service because the way I figure it is I all ready have a degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology through ENMU-R so it has been accepted into a degree all ready. If I go to TESC, all I have to do is show them a copy of my license, don't need to have ACE send an eval to them at all. TESC all ready says that if you have a license, they will give you so many credits. They didn't say it had to be ACE approved. They must all ready know that.

But they are still relying on ACE (or someone like ACE) to make the recommendation. So the value is there...even if you don't directly see it or access it.

Now I'll probably join them because, I may have to use them for SL or ALEKS as we mentioned on other forum.
