Congrats. Having worked at a rural community college, I have to believe that in addition to your teaching experience, that the ability to teach in multiple disciplines was a significant factor in your favor. You are another WNMU success story - congrats!

Very inspirational! Do you think your advantage was having a couple of teaching fields to offer? I've always wondered if it was better to get more teaching fields in hand before getting a doctorate to teach at a CC.

 

To answer you and Shawn, I definitely believe my ability to do two fields helped with the decision. Why? Because the individual who just retired taught the same fields that I do. :banana:

The job posting mentioned NOTHING about Political Science. The focus was completely on History. I went into the interview talking about history, and my lesson was from US History (Propaganda in WWII), but I definitely dropped hints about teaching Political Science. Of course, they already knew I could do that because I'm doing it as an adjunct.

RCC is a rather small community college. I'm the only History guy on campus. We have another campus, and my college on that campus teaches 4 sections of history and 1 section of humanities. I'll do the same, but my 1 section will be political science. In the larger VCCS schools, they probably wouldn't care so much if you could do more than one field because you'd have enough courses in your first field to fill you up. Still, I'd say it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra!
