NCU is now taught by 100% doctorate faculty

Wow. I found this quote from a student who asked if she could teach undergraduate classes.

"Thank you for your interest in Northcentral University, not only as a student but also in teaching. Like most universities, we do not hire our own graduates in an effort to keep academic balance. Two months ago NCU moved to a 100% doctorate taught university. Our undergraduates are taught only by those who earned a terminal degree."

I guess the bar has now been raised pretty high for faculty at NCU. I think it wasn't much of a stretch because most of their students are doctoral graduate students anyway.

Wow! Does not hire their own graduates? So their graduates are going to be on welfare? Do they even hire Capella University, Walden University, Argosy University's graduates?

TEKMAN, how do you extrapolate that NCU graduates are going to be applying for welfare if their Alma Mater doesn't hire them?

He's probably thinking about all those recent threads about individuals with PhDs living on food stamps.

Most schools don't like hiring their own students as full-time faculty. The phenomena is called "academic diversity". The premise is that the school fails to grow in the realm of thought leadership if they have too many of the products they created in the first place.

Think of it as having a really good employee and you say you want everyone to be like him or her, then you realize after cloning him or her three hundred times that he or she is not where you need the business to be focused..

Liberty is starting to require the same - unless you're the spouse of an on-campus faculty member. In that case, it doesn't really matter what degree you have or from here.

It was a joke!:naughty: That is strange, Nova Southeastern University has many faculty graduated from Nova Southeastern University itself.

NCU has some NCU graduates teaching for them but they say they do not want to hire anymore...that is what they told me when they rejected me! And yes, they do hire Capella, Walden, and other online/for-profit graduates.

I wonder if Capella or Walden would hire a NCU graduate. Have you ever applied to one of those? I would expect that they would be open.

Never tried and I honestly could not handle the work load because I am too busy now.

Century University (unaccredited), now has new campus at California: American Century University and American Pacific College, a long time ago they had lots of their faculty listed from their own school and the ratio of the faculty from their own university was fairly high (still?) I looked at their new catalog and they still hire or at least list several graduates. :yikes:

Rightly put. Nobody can compare Nova with an Online-only school like NCU. Nova has a 480 acres campus. Number of restrooms space at Nova will be larger than NCU's total work space. Nova is the seventh-largest not-for-profit independent university nationwide.
NSU is classified as a Research University by the Carnegie Foundation, and is a first-tier research university as designated by the Florida Legislature. It also has the largest public library facility (Alvin Sherman Library for Research and Information Technology Center) in the state of Florida on its campus.

NCU is trying these gimmicks to increase its credibility.

I agree with everything except referring to NCUs approach as a "gimmick". They are hiring full time facility for the committee chairs - is that a "gimmick" also? Maybe, just maybe, they are doing the right thing for the right reason.

Some of us remember when Nova was incorrectly classified as a degree mill and as a non-academic gimmick for many years. At that time, people said that Nova degrees weren't worth the paper that they were printed on. The naysayers simply didn't understand the concept of regional accreditation. Nova was fine, regardless of the pundits.

You are right. Nova always had a good reputation in South Florida. I have seen many graduates in very good positions in S.Florida and elsewhere. The same people who had not so good opinion about a B&M school like Nova will go and join Online-only schools (which has no more than 4 walls and a co-location facility), spend thousands of dollars and end up getting worthless degrees.

Which reason? As a student you'd want academic integrity, value, prestige, etc. As a shareholder you want only one thing. Profit.

I think it is a good move. Profit driven but disguised as educationally sound. Win-win.

Or you can say educationally sound but disguised as profit driven depending on where you sit. Regardless of your view it is a win-win like you said.

Here we go...how do you ever come up with the fact that the degee is "worthless"? Is this your opinion or fact?
