My community college has an open position. I applied for it back in April. The posting stated that a review of applications would begin on May 12th (which was a Saturday, by the way). That was almost a month ago, and I haven't heard anything yet. Do you think it's typical for a community college to take so long in the hiring process? I know they have a lot of positions open, and I'm sure Virginia's budget has been screwing them up, but it just seems like it's taking forever. Maybe I'm just impatient... What's the consensus? Too long? Not long enough? What have your experiences been? -Matt
I wouldn't say that it's too long... You may be surprised if they contact you at a later time. The whole employment process varies between company to company (in this case, college to college). What I would do, is simply inquire with their HR dept. It doesn't hurt to ask. What is the answer you're going to receive, "We are sorry, but we have already fulfilled the position." If that's the case, you would still be in the same position but you would at least have closure about your concern and can begin looking elsewhere. I wish the best of luck to you!
The job is still posted on both the college's website, and the state jobs website. The state website lists it as "in progress". I've also already inquired with the HR folks. They said the state site is updated to reflect the status. I don't want to jinx myself or sound too overly arrogant, but since I'm an adjunct there and can teach more than what they're asking for, and they actually know me pretty well, I'd hope I'd at least warrant an interview. It's just a waiting game I suppose... -Matt
My CC takes forrrr-evvvvv-errrrr. 6 months ago a job was posted that they JUST started calling interviews for. <confused>
They need someone for August, so I'd imagine they'd have to start calling soon. We have to interview and do a teaching demonstration. I'm just going to assume it's because they have so many positions open right now. To be honest, if they hold off until next week, I'll be done teaching so I won't have to miss school for an interview. That might work out better. :swordfight::banana::wavey: -Matt
I wish I had posted this thread earlier! They called me today to schedule an interview. Woohooo! -Matt
For anyone that's interested, I had my interview today. I think it went rather well. Of course, it helps when you know the people interviewing you. I also had to have a campus tour, even though I'm an adjunct. Turns out the tour guide was a former high school student, which helped when he was singing my praises to the dean before the interview. I'm just crossing my fingers and waiting now. -Matt
