I realized that message boards, forums or whatever you want to call them are damaging to my health. Not any message board in particular, but any of them.
I tend to spend time in one or more boards and have done so for many years.

I have found that they have the following effects on me:
    1. waste my time I could otherwise spend working out, studying, working extra hours for my job, spending time with family
    2. make me feel less connected to people instead of more connected
    3. put me in a grumpy mood some times and rarely elevate my mood
    4. some other negative thing that I don't feel like coming up with because I just realized I am wasting more time on a message board

But sometimes it is just fun! I had taken a break a few times when the posts are just the same thing over and over. I understand what you mean.

    You guys are right.
It is nice when you meet someone from the board in real life though.
I should do that again :)

You're just figuring this out.. my boy, I hope you're not watching much TV or engaging in any media source. It's all rubbish.

I have more than 20,000 posts on this, DD, Ask, AED, and others. In some ways it was a huge time sink. In others, it gave me a forum to try out new ideas.

Blessing and curse. That's why I don't post much. (Been active lately, but I have to go dormant again very soon.)

This is the only web forum that I frequent. I do at times make cameo appearances on a particular beer enthusiast forum, but only when I try something new. I recently got rid of my YouTube account because I was tired of the comment section.

As anyone who has been here for a while knows, Maniac Craniac hangs out here a lot. However, when I do it is at very little opportunity cost. I spend many, many hours per week on trains and can't spend the entire time with my face in a book and remain sane. Sometimes it's nice just to pull up the old web forum and see what's cookin'.

Other times, I view it like I would any other type of entertainment. I just finished my jog (the first after two weeks of fighting off an infection) and am absolutely drained. There is no way I'll be doing anything before bed that requires me to stand up. I could read a book. I could watch a movie. I could dominate the online world of connect four. But I'm here instead. I'm not really missing out on anything.
