For the first time in a while I find myself with relatively few if any new year resolutions. Get back in shape (again) is pretty much it for me. I did it a couple of years ago but this year had been a tough one and I pretty much let myself go. No more, time to get back on the horse.

Academically I'd like to finish 4 courses at Bellevue this year, maybe 5 if possible.

I wouldn't mind getting a Security+ and/or Sig Sigma green belt and/or SCRUM Master certifications if possible. Other than that...nada.

I'm actually doing a number of things right at the moment, like fitnesswise and so forth, so to the extent I'm resolving anything it's to keep doing more of what I'm doing.

    My Goals, in order, are:
Start to run again (used to run 3x week / 3 miles a day)
    Eat healthier
    Finish my Public Healthcare class
    Get my Lean Certification (SME)
Submit an article for publication in a Journal
Enroll in a program that meets my needs at UF, UWF, USF, or FSU (I just have to figure out my needs!)

    I'll second FoF. . . that's quite a load.

If it were me, I'd probably barely get through CISSP and CCNP in a year. Maybe I'd get a bit of time to warm up for either the doctorate or the CCIE. . . maybe.

I understand why they're in that order. Ultimately for me it came down to continuing with my doctoral program, or continuing with karate. Thinking long term, I chose the latter.

My new year resolution is to not have any new year resolutions. My problem is that I'm afraid that I've already failed my new year resolution but, I'm too confused to know for sure?

I don't know if I have resolutions, per se. I see some lifestyle changes in the offing related to being more healthy and proactive about various things, but no firm resolutions or attempts at such.

I have some rough plans. I used to dream of things such as knocking out 10-12 wished-for certifications in a year. Reality sets in as one matures. . . :)

This year I have to wrap a Java course, and make a big decision regarding education next steps. I would love to cram in all kinds of outstanding certifications I've dabbed in but not wrapped, but realistically it will boil down to Perl/MySQL certs and maybe Java plus an MSTS cert.

That should be enough to keep me busy. . .

My resolution *was* to be nicer to people, which came to a screeching halt on New Year's Eve. I was working overtime in the cellblock, babysitting the prisoners, and those of us working inside the station got Chinese food. To put my resolution into effect, I made up plates of food for the prisoners (who only get McDonald's) with the leftovers, and one of them started bitching because there was no duck sauce.

    So much for that resolution.

Have you ever noticed how entitled prisoners generally feel and act? It never ceases to amaze me.

Prisoners? How about people in society in general? Don't get me started. :pirate:

Well, I don't do the whole resolution thing, but I do have goals for the year 2012.

    1) Finish my two degrees and decide if I should work on becoming a CPA.

    2) Go from near-fluent to fluent in one of my languages and go from intermediate to near-fluent in another.

    3) Six pack abs. No, it's not quite what you think. I'm not trying to look good at the beach (although that would be a nice little side effect :shhh:), I'm trying to improve my health and fitness level. Reducing fat and increasing muscle is the true aim, but the six pack can help be indicative of my progress. While I'm at it, I want to finally run my first marathon, increase my pushups to 100 per set and increase my pull ups to 50 for each style.

    4) Become a Connect Four Grandmaster. I'm already a very strong Master (one of the best in the world), but I lack positional concepts for just a few lines of play necessary to be perfect. Once this goal is accomplished, I want to move on to master Gomoku in subsequent years and take up Chess again.

    5) Work on my plate presentation and incorporate exotic flavors in my cooking.

    6) Improve my singing voice. Or, I should say, learn how to sing at all

    7) Decide on my long term goals. Where shall I live? Am I ready for marriage? What more can I do in the work of the Lord?

Yes, it is a lot and it is probably more realistic to expect that I can not complete it all in one year, but theres nothing stopping me from trying and getting as far as I can. I plan on living past the year 2012, so I don't think I have too much to worry about missing a goal or two :)

Oh, wait a minute! The world is coming to an end on 21 December 2012! Why bother with resolutions?

I know! Isn't there a constitutional amendment against that sort of thing?!

Smoking might take you before then. Hurry up and quit if you truly desire to see the end/beginning of the world.
