So I had a very nice Christmas Eve with my wife's side of the family. We were talking about guns and stuff, then all the sudden the conversation turned toward some kind of almost end of the world financial collapse next year, FEMA death camps and internment camps. I just nodded my head like "Oh, interesting". These folks are conservatives.

To my conservative/republican brethern here, do you have any idea what the hell they are talking about?

I ask out of pure curiousity. Not trying to stir anything up. They are great people and I like them, I just didn't want to ask full details so things wouldn't go down a politically charged exchange.

    See ya,

:bigeyes:I think our world leaders are doing bad enough to make the outlook look pretty bad, and that’s without adding conspiracy theories.

2012 financial crash – it doesn’t take too much imagination with headlines like this: Likelihood of Global Recession Increases in Early 2012; USD Predicted to Become Global Safe Haven as Eurozone Turmoil Intensifies According to FOREX.com 1Q Markets Outlook - Yahoo! Finance

Stir in a dab of political discontent and any type conspiracy can develop.

There is a difference between a conservative and a whack job............just saying.

Oh yeah! Then they started talked about how if you pay for something with cash, have loads of weapons, and something else I don't remember you will be branded a terrorist? Then they started talking about overly intrusive government oversight, etc. They seemed to have no problem with it under GWB though.

I think it is like Truckie says: "There is a difference between a conservative and a whack job............just saying".

Other than that, they are very nice people. Thank God my wife doesn't think that stuff!

    This is the first I've heard of that, but it reminds me of a quote that I'm probably paraphrasing, and I can't remember who actually said it, but I just want to make it clear that I didn't invent it, since it's such an awesome quote;

"An armed citizenry cannot be enslaved" - Unknown (I forget).

Thanks for the links BobbyJim. I think this pretty much says it all:

"Earlier this week, PM editor-in-chief James Meigs appeared on Glenn Beck's FOX news program twice to debunk conspiracy theories regarding supposed "concentration camps" being built by the Federal Emergency Management Agency."

I don't think 'whack jobs' think much of any mainstream political party!!!!

I'm a conservative and this is the first I've heard of any of this. Honestly I think if the U.S. had a financial collapse, defaulted on all its debt, etc. the states would simply stop paying in and the federation would either materially or effectively cease. Maybe we'd still be the United States in name only or militarily but as a centralized, powerful entity it would stop since the feds use money with strings attached to control the states. Were the states to stop paying in and the federal government to no longer be financially capable to do anything about it... well it doesn't take a genius.

If that were to happen, then the federal government would barely be able to meet it's constitutionally mandated obligations, such as the defense of the country, instead of engaging in all the non-constitutional programs that currently exist, such as social security, etc.

Exactly and the states would simply "opt out".

About a year ago, a South Carolina legislator proposed creating their own gold-backed currency, just in case the U.S. dollar collapsed or began losing it's value too quickly through hyper inflation, in conjunction with printing too many paper dollars that aren't backed by anything intrinsic, other than the faith that people have in it, coupled with the global force of the U.S. military that stands behind the dollar.

Everything is becoming so economically interconnected at a global level; it will be interesting to see how long it will take for a global currency to be implemented and, when that happens, what will be the value of gold? The value of gold will probably plummet when a global currency is implemented.

I followed a thread on FEMA death camps in another board. It was mostly libertarians and some whacko liberals (this was under GWB's reign). So, It depends on the idiot in charge I suppose.

No nation in their right mind would want an international currency. It would tie all our fates together (think the Euro and Greece) in a way that could literally send us into a barter system overnight. It would also prevent nations from somewhat controlling their own economy through monetary policy and it would prevent nations from being able to manipulate currencies for economic edge as either producers or consumers. It would also destroy the multi-billion dollar industry of currencies speculation. As an aside, I think it would also send the price of gold into orbit as no matter what any nation says, people view gold as having value.

This seems a little like watching a weekend marathon of the X-Files while on peyote.
