    Hello Everyone,

I applied for Imperial DL MBA with the knowledge that Imperial is a top UK university. However, Economist's which MBA for distance learning suggested Imperial DL MBA was rather poor while Warwick Distance Learning MBA got a good rating. Warwick is 5k cheaper in cost than Imperial as well...

Can I get some suggestion here please?!

    Thanks very much in advance!

Imperial College London is accredited by EQUIS and AMBA; however, the Warwick Business School has triple accreditation which includes AACSB. Between these two choices, I’d personally favor the Warwick MBA option.

Hmmm a top 10 institution v a top 50 institution... Depends on what you're going for. If it's name and prestige then Imperial sounds like the way to go. Everyone knows and respects ICL so the extra 5k may be worth it. Warwick however sounds like they have a better structured programme for the DL MBA, and may be more conducive to DL. Although the Warwick MBA maybe ranked considerably higher, the weight of the ICL name alone exceedingly surpasses its MBA "shortcomings" Either way, great schools. If both offer the same teaching methods/degree of difficulty, personally I'd go for ICL.

    Thanks both.

major56, I know accreditations add value but what would be the main impact of not having accreditation from AACSB? e.g. would Imperial MBA not be recognised officially in the US?

keegan, that's exactly what I thought as well! But it would be interesting to hear from someone familiar with their teaching methods. Also interesting stats on Which MBA is only 74% of of students finished the programme at Imperial as opposed to 81% of Warwick. Not sure whether it was because ICL materials are too difficult or students just lost interest...

No offenses to Imperial College Business School’s EQUIS or AMBA programmatic accreditations, as both accreditations add to the program value; however, AACSB accreditation is considered the leading accreditation for business schools. Nonetheless, I’m certain whether you decide Imperial or WBS; either MBA will meet your requirements for both quality and recognition.

Currently (2011) Financial Times ranks Imperial in front of Warwick as regards European distance /online MBA programs. The Economist ranks WBS at 55 globally with Imperial not ranked (?) within the top 100 MBA programs Worldwide. Of course, rankings are rankings and are subject to vary and change from one assessor to another, ranking methodologies used, etc., and as too the perceived importance of rankings in general.

If you are working in a technology area then the Imperial MBA may carry more weight with employers since Imperial has a great reputation in that area.

The op is coming to us from London and so I'm a bit surprised that we (largely a USA board) would be asked by a Briton as to how to rate two British schools. I'd say that Imperial has a better overall rating
(sorry, I don't pay close attention to the ratings) but I don't know specifically about the business school. Mostly I'm thinking that you can't go far wrong either way.

Having just reviewed this thread I'd want to emphasize that both schools have excellent reputations and a decision might hang on factors such as the availability of specific elective courses, specific faculty members and any cost differential that might exist. You couldn't be faulted whichever way you jumped.

Aside from costs and content, I think Warwick has a very good reputation within the UK. Internationally (or at least outside of Europe) the Imperial MBA might have more weight because London is a brand on its own.

Dont even think about Warwick DL MBA

Warwick MBA is a disaster. Don’t go there, don’t even think about it!
You will pay about 10.000 Dollar for one year. They will send you 6-7 books for this money. Actually, they will try to. 3 weeks after beginning of the classes - they will send a mail - saying they have some issues with the books. After 5 weeks and many complain later from students who never received books - they stop responding. If you want to read business books for 500 Dollar a year - order them at Amazon. You will pay 500 - not 10.000 for them. And Amazon will deliver in 24h. Amazon is a much better business school than Warwick (Someone should tell Amazon. Then you will have 3 courses in the first half year - you may attend 1-2 web-sessions, each 1,5h during the half year. That’s what Warwick calls "teaching". You will fly after 3 months in to the middle of nowhere in the UK - a nightmare (if you´re not by chance live there…). One of the 3 days of first "Warwick week „you will play some stupid "get to know each other „games. You will have examinations send for the first 3 courses. 1 day before he deadline (actually - when you worked 2 weeks on your assignment) you will get a short mail - saying - they realized they used the same question a few years before - already. So this will not count. Discard your work of the last weeks. Then a hundred students will go crazy and express this in their online forum. Since its Saturday - Warwick cares a shit. They´re gardening - of course that's what you do in the middle of nowhere in England... If you care a shit for stupid’s paying 10.000 for a few books. You will have to start a new assignment. You will have a second week you have to fly in. They will change the date of this week some weeks before. Cancel your flights - (expensive if you live in Singapore, or the US east coast as I do). They will not tell you - you may find out by chance. If you have a very busy job (the type of people doing a DL MBA use to have busy jobs ...) - bad luck for you.
Ah - content? Which? Why? Ah - the new books (the other halve of the 500 Dollar value of this DLMBA course. And teaching? Marketing uses references / papers you should read from the 60ies of the last century. Right - that's shortly after typewriters were first used. You thing about Multichannel online social media marketing? Stupid you. They're growing Roses and do gardening in the middle of England... Market research classes? Is on splash free toilets. Several hours on splash-free urinals. That the kind of business problem at Warwick (No Bullshit - I still can’t believe but I was sitting there – paralyzed the smell of urine in my nose...).
OK - stop here - got the point?
    A Disaster. A Disaster. A Disaster.
Ah - the same old man teaching the full-time MBA there - don't go there.

Sorry to not be more positive - I wish I could - I paid a high price to find out...

A newbie shows up specifically and exclusively for the purpose of trashing a well known, well regarded British university and then never comes back. I'm sorry that Claire had a bad experience but I'd think twice before making large life decisions based upon the rant of one disgruntled student.

Then let her explain exactely what is the problem. what she is saying sound like the outcome of a very seriuous, structural problem in the operational field of the course.

:nono: Newbie - Do you imagine that someone is stopping her? Please note that Claire's one and only post was 3 months ago. She could have (and still can) say anything she wants to say.:tapedshut:

In regards to Imperial - I believe they stopped to offer a distance learning version in 2012 and will relaunch a flexible/blended learning MBA in 2014.

maybe a newbie, but what difference does this make? if this is the only experience she has, this is the only thing she has to tell about mba´s, i guess.
but appart from that what she describes sounds like a major problem on the operational side of wbs. I would relly like to know what the reasons are. if this is structural, she has a point

Every school in the universe has its disgruntled (former) students just as every company has its disgruntled (former) employees. Would you really refuse to attend a major university just because of the opinion of one anonymous hit-and-run board member?
