I'm at a crossroads: Bail out with an EdS or stick with it for an EdD?

That is exactly what happened to me. I had to make a special request to HR to foot the bill for my PhD since I was the first in the company to use tuition assistance for a PhD (many others have PhDs already but in microbiology and engineering). Since the cat was out of the bag, I felt a drive to finish.

As far as teaching, I have the students call me Randell. I may change that for the graduate level classes I teach but, unless they read my bio, they might not even know I have a PhD.

I say press on DOCTOR SURF!!!!!!!

 

I absolutely insist that my students call me "Bruce", and that won't change if I manage to finish this hellish doctoral journey. As I say in my welcome message for every course, "Mr. Tait was my father, and Professor Tait makes me think of some pompous windbag in a tweed blazer, sucking on an unlit pipe and thinking about their own greatness". :yup:

I've had the same thoughts myself. I planned my degree so that my Ed.S. capstone fell during the summer. I submitted to ACRES but have not received feedback on publication (I had little hope). The course was not exceptionally difficult, but very time consuming. If you wake up worrying about it and go to bed doing the same, take some a semester off. Once you reach the dissertation phase you won't have that option.

 

What what you say made it so time-consuming?

 

Thanks for those ideas, I appreciate the insight. So far, I'm not worrying about classes at all, in fact, I am rather enjoying the challenge. I will finish my last class by Christmas 2012 and will have a break until I can take my comps in the summer of 2013. I hope to be finished with the dissertation sometime in 2014; that gives me a year and a half to do it. We'll see if life stays in line with my hopes.

 

You write a manuscript for publication. If you are serious about publication, the research and re-writes are very time intensive.
