The school new address here in San Francisco happens to be just some blocks from the two main buildings of my school, Academy of Art University (AAU has a dozen different buildings in downtown SF, it's like downtown it's our campus) and not that far from where I live.. It's a small office building in front of the night club Temple. You can see it here at Google Street View.

543 Howard Street, 5th Fl San Francisco, CA 94105 - Google Maps

I don't know about you guys, I wouldn't enroll in a school with at least a building of its own. But that's just me.
And the new name it's amazingly bad. And it's NA.

My guess it's that they will lose students in droves.

This is old news for current students.

I'm not sure about the name only time will tell. I'm with MC on the fact they had a killer name.

I have been back in classes with them for the last month and a half and am excited to see whats in store for current students. I'm very close to being done with my BS in CJ degree so I hope it ends well for me.

It sounds like they are trying to leech off of the reputation of the New School.

p.s. Just to add that there is a ton of money behind AJU/New now. There is going to be a huge PR and the tech dept. went from 2 to 100, the same with the admin staff.

Write it down as: "Adjunct Professor, Andrew Jackson University (nka New Charter University)."

I don't like the new name either. It actually sucks. I can hear someone saying it and someone saying "What??". Who thinks these things up and says, yeah good one boss. Why do these places have to pick names that scream DL for profit school. Reminds me of the University of Sarasota that had a reasonable name and then went to Argosy University.

AJU was a good name and sounded like a bricks and mortar school.

Do we have the beginnings of Touro University International/TUI/Trident University International.

President Andrew Jackson had an Alabama connection: he fought as an army officer in the Creek War of 1813 to 1814.

I concur with the majority.....terrible name, and even worse decision. I considered doing a degree (MPA) there under the greatly discounted tuition program they had (and may still have), but no way in Hell is "New Charter University" going on my resume.

I wonder what their second-place choice was? Maybe the name "Edsel University" was already taken.

When I go to the new.edu site, I get a nearly blank screen, with th4 DETC logo, asking for my password, and saying:
"Enter your credentials below and we will send you right along." Rather odd wording, isn't it. Oh, and no place to enter credentials.

    Sadly, that sounds entirely plausible.

My main objection to colleges named after presidents (especially presidents from long ago) for no good reason is that they seem to be trying to gain instant credibility and sound like they've been around forever. Actually, that's probably exactly why they do it, to give the appearance of stability and prestige. It's not the worst thing in the world, but I wouldn't do it.

Do you feel this way about George Washington University?

Or even William Howard Taft University … though Taft was a rather generously proportioned individual. :cool2:

And what exactly is "generously proportioned" a euphemism for?
