Yeah sue them, right? After all, that's the American way.

WNMU is not raising their tuition, the State of New Mexico is raising tuition so enrolling at The University of New Mexico would not be an advantage.

Well, since the WNMU does not specify whether the degree must be from regional accredited schools. Then fight for it; especially the written requirement is only specified CHEA accredited. It is their problem in written policy, not the student credential. If that does not workout with the WNMU, take the case of the Department of Education. Refer the admission committee as discrimination against NA degree holders. If you tell them that you'll file the law suit, I am sure they will admit you.

No they don't. Their standard is a degree accredited by a CHEA accreditor. Believe it or not, they can actually get in trouble with their accreditor for not following their published admission standards.

If the NA degree is the ONLY reason he is not being admitted, he would likely prevail in a lawsuit. A governmental entity cannot publish criteria and then ignore it.

A private entity might have a truth-in-advertising problem.

I had a similar problem with transfering from the NA Ashworth College into the RA Southwestern College. I eventually spoke to the Dean of admissions (after 3 attempts) and was admitted into the program with full transfer of credit. Sometimes the fight is worth it.

That said WNMU is simply the worst school I have ever attended hands down. (this is my opinion) but they couldn't find their backside with both hands stuck in their back pockets. The graduate coursework was terrible, their student portal (Mustang I think it was called) was disorganized and chaotic, the tech support was probably some chain smoking alcoholic stuck in a boiler room closet. Funny story on that last one, I called in for a tech support call and the guy started yelling at me because he thought I was his son calling him at work pranking him...(to say it was odd would be an understatement). They are well meaning people who are (or at least were) not very good at what they do (online anyway). Your results may vary but I'd check out another school.

I am sure he is going to fight it because of the standards issue that has come up. I wouldnt want him to go to WNMU now because of this bull. If they as a university are not going to follow their own policies what would he expect when in an online class. After he fights it I will try to convence him to give em the finger.

I was wondering why you would fight something if it was not the most "absolutely perfect fit of a program"?

I think that is from my point of view. I know its not alot but he spent the money to get them the transcripts only to be screwed. He was already showing me the classes he had picked out so he can complete the two areas of the program. So I am pretty sure this was the right program for him. All i can do is help him fight it the rest would be on him.

People pay application fees and transcript fees all the time and are rejected for a variety of reasons. It's not getting screwed, it's admissions standards.

No, the American way is to go on an internet forum and abruptly encourage people to give up without even trying. The DegreeInfo way, however, is to not allow idiotic statements like "DETC is not an accreditation agency" to go completely unchallenged. The OP has a chance to help DETC grads break new ground. I say he should go for it- even if it fails, what's to lose? Oh, and hey, it might just lay the groundwork for the future, when people who are competent enough to understand a school's own policy are hired to work there.

I also believe that it is not the "Degree info way" to finance a potentially costly challenge while breaking "new ground." Forget it and move on!

It's one thing to petition an admissions board, it's a whole other thing to take legal action.

Actually, that would actually be a misunderstood principle, since there are a number of public institutions on the HETA list. But then, you've been ignorant enough so far that I'll bet you don't even know what that means.

After checking out WNMU's ranking, I would have to change my stance. I say argue it!

WNMU has an acceptance rate of 100%.

Granted these are undergraduate numbers, but that's pretty sad that 100% of undergraduate applicants are admitted. I went to a university where 39% of all students were accepted, and I thought THAT number was high.

So after talking to the Admissions Director he told me that he is reviewing the information. Here is the reply my brother got.

    Paul,

I am returning you to conditional admit status pending us receiving your transcripts. Please have transcripts from Aspen University sent directly to us for the regular admissions evaluation process. This step should help us along the process.

For your convenience, I have attached a transcript request form for your use in having the transcripts sent to WNMU. Please feel free to print and use it for each university.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through this issue.

Congrats to you brother! See, it worth to fight for it when you have enough evidence to be proven.

I didn't mean to advocate filing a lawsuit, although I admit that my previous comment said exactly that  "Legal action," as I was envisioning it, includes a variety of flavors, many of them not not including an extremely expensive, futile, interminable court battle. A simple letter from an attorney, which I have gotten for certain situations in the past, is enough to get people to stop acting stupid and start reading the words as they are written and not as one sees fit.

Reading the comment above mine, it seems like that won't even be necessary. Let us know how it turns out!

    From an earlier posting:

Am I the only one confused here?

I am studying the MAIS at WNMU, and as I posted earlier I am 6 credits and comprehensive from getting the degree. I started in 2008 and have contacted staff and professors numerous times during this tenure. I have always received prompt, considerate responses. I am not saying the OP is incorrect; just that this may be a "one-in-a-million" transaction.
