I will give credit where credit is due - BHO made a good choice with the decision to conduct this raid. I was merely pointing out that the political consequences of a bad decision in this case (not going after him with the intelligence) outweighed the political consequences of a good decision (to conduct the raid) if the raid had yielded no results. With the media firmly in his court as deep as they are, a raid with no results could have been spun to reflect favorably upon him - and that would hold true no matter who was the President given the level of media support BHO enjoys. The decision was already made for him, but he showed the intestinal fortitude to follow through when he could have said no.

What media are you talking about? Everyone on the spectrum from libertarians to progressives have been hating on Obama. Republicans have been calling him a socialist and Democrats have been calling him a Republican.

You had me going there for a second, because you could not possibly believe that Obama has not gotten a pass from the media. Have a nice evening.

I have to agree with truckie on this one. I'm suprised most news anchors can talk coherently with Obama's johnson stuffed down their throats. Obviously this comment excludes FoxNews, but every other major news outlet always paints this president in a positive light. They do point out when people are upset with him, but are quick to brush it off as irrelevant.

I had to chuckle at this comment because I too feel that it's true. Reminds me of the SNL skit from the campaign when Obama and Hillary were debating and the journalists were clearly supporting Obama.

I have a feeling that there was a lot more intelligence on this mission than has been mentioned in the media. I bet there has been a satellite and/or drones
monitoring OBL's compound for weeks, not to mention that by CIA contacts living in the neighborhood.

Maybe a Pakistan government official is $100-million richer today (remember the wanted - dead or alive reward).

There was another US special forces coup recently when hostages were rescued from Somalia pirates. The US, UK, and Israelis all have expert special forces teams. I understand a lot of what these forces accomplish is never made public.

Has Obama gotten a pass in the media? It depends on what media you are referring to. When I listen to AM radio or read opinion columns in major newspapers, you would think that Obama's first executive order was to mandate that all newborn puppies promptly be kicked with steel toed boots. MSNBC might be waiting for Obama to ask it to the prom, but Obama's critics have also been heard loud and clear.

Are you referring to the same critics that get blasted in other posts here such such as Fox? Now they are suddenly legitimate news source in your eyes when you need to make a point? When I refer to the "media" giving BHO a pass I am talking about the mainstream TV and print media that a majority of the sheep get their information from. This has been fun, but I am done with this conversation.

Fox is an easy target, but no, my post specifically mentioned AM radio and opinion columns. However, since you mentioned it...
By "mainstream" and "majority of the sheep" you clearly must mean the most popular talk radio programs or the most popular news network and their followers. Right? Yeah, I'm sick of how easy they've been on Obama.

With the incredibly large array of options for news available to us in our time, it may be that many, maybe even most, people do not agree with whatever news that they receive, rather, that they receive whatever news with which they agree.

Let's define "sheep" shall we? A sheep, at least in my opinion, is not defined as "one who has a different opinion than truckie270." To me, a sheep is someone who actually believes that human beings are capable of successfully governing over themselves or that any anthropogenic ideology is reasoned and mature.

Please don't take me out context as you don't know me or a thing about me.

A "sheep" is someone who blindly follow whatever they are fed by those with the power to influence. A "sheep" does not have the capacity to question, or is too intellectually lazy to do so. A "sheep" relies on the emotional argument rather than the logical one. A "sheep" believes in slogans like "hope and change" or "yes, we can" over actions. A "sheep" can be a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Communist, Socialist, or whatever.

I agree that a growing number are receiving their information from other sources, but in no way is it a majority of people.

Honestly, I don't even know what we are disagreeing about, but I was kinda looking forward to a debate. I guess I'll have to wait another day.

No worries Brother - it is the internet. Who really cares who gets the credit for UBL's new third eye?

Not me, by the way, I don't care about politics. I do however care deeply about the debate on whether it is UBL or OBL and whether our dear friend in Libya is Ghadafi, Kadafi, or Ghaddaffi. I propose that we just call him M-Gad.

Did you ever notice that when Obama got elected, the media stopped using OBL and switched to UBL?

UBL is what the military and intelligence community use.

I disagree. This was not an "Obama moment" but instead a U.S. military victory. The "I, me, my" should have been left completely out and saved for the campaign, not a global address. That said he may as well start thanking G.W. who put the military and intel strategies into action, the CIA people who he fired and/or prosecuted for waterboarding, Gitmo personnel who he villified and all the behind the scenes folks who did the ugly part of the job to gather just enough intel to allow the result he is taking credit for. Answering the phone and saying "okay" took some courage, but nothing on the level as the ones who make it happen. Were I in his position I'd almost be ashamed to detail my small role in such a huge tapestry of actions, decisions and circumstances. So no, I don't think he thanked the troops. And remember, it wasn't just the guys pulling the trigger in the compound or the soldiers at Gitmo who made this possible, but every single soldier sucking sand in Afghanistan and all their supporting personnel as well. Again, this was a United States military and CIA victory, not a political one.
