Alright so this is probably overdone.. (AACSB DBA thread)

Looking for feedback as the MBA is nearly done.

I'm looking for a program that suits the following criteria:
    1. DBA with a couple concentrations to choose from. (PhD for business isn't useful)
    2. AACSB accredited (this isn't negotiable).
    3. Distance learning with short residencies ok (one or two weeks per year).
    4. School located in the United States (this isn't negotiable)
    5. Preferably not a for-profit (though this may be negotiable.)

There are likely other threads that accomplish this, but there's also a lot of banter in those threads and frankly, cutting the wheat from the chaff is time-consuming. If anyone knows of a program that meets these reqs, I'd be grateful to know of it.

    Thanks,
    ITJD

Someone ought to tell those B-schools to stop hiring PhDs. They are not useful!:eek:mfg:

Here is one but it is $89K - KSU Coles College of Business - DBA Program but has a lot more residency - Year 1 Residencies

    Four 2-day sessions (Sat-Sun)

    Three 3-day sessions (Fri-Sun)

    Three 4-day sessions (Thu-Sun)

How about Nova - they applied for AACSB and may meet your needs

Considering I'm related to one (tenured business school PhD) and he's useless for anything in the real world, I'm pretty biased :)

    Clarifications:

1.I am not interested in research for solely theory based outcomes. I am interested in applied business research which speaks to DBA programs most directly. Therefore, based on this definition, PhD programs are not useful to my business.

    2. AACSB accreditation while more often seen as a faculty track requirement is more a research requirement for me. I want to research real problems and facilitate real solutions. AACSB focuses more on the research side of the fence, so I want a rigorous program that meets those standards.

    3. I am not looking to be full time faculty.

Sorry for the hassles or misunderstandings.

I think Kennesaw State meets all of your requirements.

Thanks Randell, I'll check them out. Appreciated.

Truth is that the residencies don't bug me, but they may bug my employer so I'm trying to keep the mind open. If a good program comes along I may be able to get them to be flexible with me, but I don't want "Hey I'm going to be out for 30 days a year" to be my opening position.

Nova's been on the radar a while, but I really want them to have the accreditation in hand before I jump in. Been burned by schools before.

    Again, thanks.

The residencies are only 9 weekdays (and maybe some travel days) so you could use vacation time - that is how I found the time to travel to the UK to research my thesis.

So Kennesaw is on the list.. and their site advises me that they're full of themselves, but that's another story entirely.. they're still on the list.

    Any others?

Thank you xkaperx - much appreciated.

Looks like Georgia is a hotbed of executive doctoral programs.

I thought NSU (Nova) applied for AACSB accreditation four years ago. What happens to its candidacy status?

Supposedly they are on track, but it isn't done yet.

    ITJD,

Are you anywhere near Boston? I only ask because I have heard that the Boston area has the highest concentration of colleges and universities of anywhere in the world. I am wondering if there is a part-time residential program nearby that might suit you.

I am and there isn't. Part of the problem of being in the university capital of the world is that the demand for the educations at the best institutions makes them less inclined to offer flexible programs. They're not dependent on the local community for student inflow.

    Troy University

TEKMAN - I'm a Troy University graduate as well. B.S. and MBA. What was your PhD in?? how has the cost/benefit been for you? I interview next Monday at a brick and mortar institution in Montgomery for an EdD program in admin, policy, law. But the program is very intensive for at least 3 years. Weighing my options against Walden DBA. Would like to get feedback from some of your experiences. Thanks
