    Hi All,

I need some help in deciding on a school to complete my Bachelors Degree in Management (or General Business if fine). I just really need a degree to add to my resume.

I had an AA from a community college. I started UoP BSBM about 6 years ago and stopped (about 3-4 years ago) 4 classes short of completing the degree - 3 upper & 1 lower. Now I'm trying to complete my degree and UoP is telling me I need to take 11 classes to be awarded the degree. I don't think I'll pay the ridiculous rates for another 11 classes.

I'm looking for a fast, inexpensive (hopefully), accredited degree. I'm not sure that RA or NA really matters to me.

Thank you for your input guys!

Most schools require at least 30 semester units to be completed in residence. The exceptions are the big-3. I suggest you look at Excelsior and COSC. You may be able to complete your degree by taking CLEP and/or DSST exams to really cut your costs
Check out both the Excelsior BSBA and BSLS degrees (my BSLS is half engineering and never had a problem with either employers or getting in graduate programs).

If you figure out what courses you need just ask here and I'm sure you will recieve suggestions.

I believe for your UG degree RA is your best option.

    +1

Your going to run into the 30 unit in-residence requirement everywhere you go.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have heard about Excelsior.

Question for you. I know UoP doesn't have a great reputation, but people know about it. How do you explain the big 3 or in your case Excelsior to an employer? Are there actual courses to be taken at this school or are they a 'credit bank' that offers degrees? Also, how do you explain the BSLS to your employer or on an interview? Looks like you're in a bit of a Techinical profession. I noticed that you list 'BS, Excelsior' but leave out the Liberal Studies part.

    I'm just wondering.

I'll look into the required courses and list them out here soon.

    Thank you!
    Joel

There is nothing to explain. It is a regionally accredited college that just happens to have a gracious policy regarding transfer credit. They have courses, you can complete the entire degree there if you choose, and the issue of their policies isn't well known outside of the groups of people on the internet who choose to discuss them.

Also note that unless you are using your degree to move up significantly or change fields (and I would recommend another major if so) experienced workers typically don't get a lot of questions about degree details in interviews. "You have a degree?" Check.

I don't think you should worry about Excelsior. I'm not connected with Excelsior nor have I taken classes there, but I know them by reputation. They are in no way substandard and a degree from there will most likely work very well on a resume. I agree with the others that they might be one of your only choices for finishing your degree given their liberal transfer program. . A degree from Excelsior is regionally accredited, which is the highest form of accreditation and equal to any state school. You might run into a very small number of employers who will discriminate against a degree from Excelsior, however, they will be few. You will find that most employers only concern will be whether the school is properly accredited and Excelsior is.

I also think you were wise to drop out of UoP because they are well known for being the McDonald's of education

If you're worried about Excelsior College because solely Distance learning institution. Then you should stick with distance learning program from B&M college. Troy University allow you to transfer up to 90 credits, and 30 credits from the institution. At the rate of $200.00 per credit, that's about $6,000.00; and you can complete within 6 months.

Troy University's Bachelor of Science in Business Administration General/Management.

I graduated, obviously, from TESC and have never had anyone question my degree. Like others have said, they confirm I have a degree and that it's accredited, but as far as how it was earned, it never comes up. I have a MS as well but have left it off a few job applications lately, and with my BSBA being listed as my terminal degree I've had no issues scoring interviews / getting offers. If you're just seeking a BS in business management I honestly think a big-3 degree would work for you. TESC and COSC are state schools, which will give them additional credibility in the eyes of the few naysayers you may run into. EC used to be. You could complete the degree fairly quickly and cheaply (waaay cheaper than UOP), and could use the time and money saved to follow that degree up with a MS from a B&M school if so desired. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Thank you all (or y'all) for the the information.

My profile is dated. I lived in California until the begining of 2010. I now live in Texas. I was thinking about Amberton for MBA once I completed the BSBM - still not sure if I'll go for an MBA though. I was also thinking of TCU since they are 15 min away and they are very well known. Not sure if I want to spend $30k for an MBA - or if i can even come up with the money, or if i would even be accepted! I'm also not sure what utility i would get out of the degree. I really just need a four-year degree for my resume for now.

Troy University - Are they RA or NA? Their website says Nationally Accredited.
    Sorrell College of Business
    ACCREDITATION
Troy University, through its Sorrell College of Business, is nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) to offer baccalaureate degree programs in accounting, finance, general business, information systems, management, and marketing. The ACBSP has also accredited Troy to offer graduate business programs.

(I think they are Regionally Accredited, but they using the word 'Nationally' to mean something other than what people argue about here everyday - lol.)

I have Excelsior looking into my options. I had my transcripts reviewed by them in the past and they said i needed to complete 9 classes to complete the degree in General Business. I've asked them if a degree in Liberal Studies would required less classes so i can finish faster. I'll let you guys know what they say.

    Thank you for your input!

Actually, instead of saying that they are nationally accredited by ACBSP, they should have said that they are professionally accredited by ACBSP.

Check out Marshall University's RBA program (24-hr residence requirement). I can't remember the cost, but it is affordable. They only require 3-hrs with Marshall if you've attended another West Virginia state college. I know it's not a business degree but I decided to post it anyway.

The more I look at this program the more I wonder why I'm starting at Liberty this spring.

Interesting but this is not a business degree.
For a general degree the Excelsior BSLS requires 10 less UD credits than Marshall - which could be quite a savings in tuition.
