    Hampton University

Hampton University recently started a PhD program in Business (and a few others). It takes 2 years to complete coursework and costs $40k total, I believe. It does require a residency of 4 weeks each summer (in July, 2 year program means 2 residencies).

I recently applied and was accepted, I think I had a pretty strong application package, but I don't know how competitive they are. Hampton is supposed to be a pretty decent school. It's one of the top HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Not being black, I'm not sure how the culture is regarding those who aren't black, but from what I've read it doesn't seem to be an issue.

Perhaps not day to day, but you may want to read this.

    Steve,

Upon reading The Washington Post story through the link you provided, one would prefer believing there are far more pressing societal issues than a beauty /homecoming contestant winner and … should this episode be viewed as another illustration of youthful imprudence or is it a deeper issue for Hampton University administration and its student body? Personally, I’m leaning toward immaturity’s ignorance and the failings and futilities vanity brings. Conversely though, has bigotry once again reared its ugly head among people who really should appreciate historically the consequences of prejudice (e.g. through stereotyping) and systematic partiality …? And as we’re already aware … as long as societies prolong to preoccupy with race, we secure the survival of racism.

But as Solomon records in Ecclesiastes 1:9-11 NIV: “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow.”

Yeah, you should look at that school... I distinctly remember a spokesman of the school emphatically stately that they would strive to graduate all (100%) of their doctoral students. This makes the school unique, as other online RA programs are graduating about 10% of their students.

Is it strange that when I click on a thread that has Dave Wagner's post I know without a doubt that it will have this line in it? We get it, it is hard to get a doctorate (either because the school makes it hard or simply because it is hard).

It is. Equally as strange is that I know without a doubt that it won't link to any credible research substantiating this extraordinary claim.
