About $8500 counting tuition at a community college. Originally when I was enrolled at MI State I had a scholarship so it was free.

I appreciate your answer. I hoped you answered less than $10,000. The limitations for polls make it difficult to include every possibility so I limited it to BS/BA level degrees since these are usually considered the "standard" level of education in society. Answers that cannot be adequately addressed by the poll, which I expected, can of course be explained in the thread, which you did. In any case, I'm thinking of submitting another related poll, which will be more inclusive.

It's interesting to note that any foreigner can study for free in most of the Federal Universities in Brazil - they just need to pass the entrance exam (called "vestibular") like everyone else.

Of course for that you'd need to know our language, Portuguese :)

There's always a catch.... I don't suppose that one can do research-only doctoral work through Brazilian universities in English?

If you known Spanish and French, that would help a lot, because both are Romance languages. I'd guess you'd probably be able to read a text in Portuguese without knowing the language and get most of the meaning (I know I can do that with French, even tough I never studied the language).

During my undergrad I had Argentinians, Colombians, Uruguayans and French classmates in my department. So I guess the entrance exam is not impossible for foreigners. :)

While I can't speak a single word of Portuguese, I can read it almost as well as I can read Spanish. It seems every word in Portugese reminds me of either a French, Spanish or English word. For that fact, I've considered just going ahead and learning the thing already :)

I put more than 50K, although I am not really sure of the exact amount. After scholarships and financial aid, it could have been slightly under than. My parents shelled out most of that and it was not via distance learning.

While it did not apply to my undergrad, how would you could employer reimbursement? Like you would a grant? The number for my masters would vary from 3K to 32K, depending on how reimbursement was counted. Educational reimbursement is such a great benefit!

It cost me about $2,500 for classes at the CC that also lead to my MCSE, classes I took in the late 80's at DeVry, I took 2 UoP classes ($1,600), one more CC course ($300), and COSC fees ($1,000). I think it cost me about $7K I guess. My MS from Touro cost me less ($6,750).

    I don't think so either, sorry. :(

Brazilian doctorates follows a similar model to the american one, so you need to take classes there.

And there are no English only doctorates that I known of.

There are some Business Schools with English only programs at the Master level, but that's it (curiously, the only AACSB accredited Brazilian MBA is a Portuguese-only, not one of the English ones).

The research institutions are portuguese-only basically (In this regard Brazil is pretty much like the USA and Japan - a inward country with a vast population that doesn't care that much about other languages).

    To the OP:

Sorry for Hijacking you thread. But it seems this unavoidable here at degreeinfo.com :D
