Kaboom: yet another time bomb for senate candidate Christine O'Donnell

Delaware 'Tea Party' Republican senate candidate Christine O'Donnell has already been caught twice lying about her degrees. First, she claimed a Bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson years before she actually earned it. Then she claimed she was pursuing a Master's at Princeton, when she had never enrolled there.

Now, the Washington Post has determined that her claim, still on her LinkedIn page as of this morning, of having attended the University of Oxford is simply not true. She took a course from the Phoenix Institute, which rents classrooms on various campuses around the world, including Oxford.

Post article: The Plum Line - Another Christine O'Donnell embellishment: She misleadingly claims she studied at Oxford

"I went to Oxford ...where I took a class from the Phoenix Institute." Nice...

Following O'Donnell's campaign would be so entertaining if it weren't all so scary.

This is exactly what you get with the "tea party" nonsense. They lie, they contradict themselves, they create all the problems, and then blame those who are trying to fix their recklessness. It is clear that it is only those who can't think for themselves can fall for this pack of lies.

    NONSENSE!

It just goes to show, there's only room for one Miley Cyru-uh, I mean Sarah Palin in the tea party.

Just to clarify, I'm not anti-tea party because it is the tea party. I am anti-hype, and the tea party is the definition of hype. All fluff and marketing.

Ah come on! What does education have to do with anything in politics? Besides, she is kind of cute. I would vote for her.

I love when people take things out of context. She had earned the degree, it just was not conferred due to unpaid tuition. All that was stated is that the name of the school and years attended, which in and of itself is not a lie. Furthermore "trying for a Masters at Princeton" in no way states she had enrolled or was even accepted there. I'm trying for a Masters at UofM but I have yet to be accepted, register, enroll, or even have a plan to pay for it for that matter. As far as the Oxford thing goes, they got the information from a Lynked In page that simply states the name University of Oxford with the name of the class an no other information. Technically it may look misleading, but how is it lying? Did she even construct the Lynked In Page or was some intern just reading information of a piece of paper that she jotted down? I agree it is somewhat misleading, but how many politicians have done far worse. Dave Bing, Mayor of Detroit, did the same thing saying he earned his degree more than 30 years ago, yet he was a class or 2 from graduating when that was uncovered. Yet he was still elected Mayor and the press didn't get very far with it, so they just dropped it.

She seems to lie a lot, what people in politics call "misspeaking". I am a Libertarian and agree with a lot of what the tea-party supports, but this woman is just an embarrassment. That said, I doubt she could do anymore harm than the people we currently have in there (on both sides).

To an earlier poster who said the tea-partiers caused all the problems, I think you're way off base. I won't get into a debate with you here, but you need to do your research. People on all sides played a hand in where we are now (I would argue the Democrats played a bigger hand than Republicans, but I digress) and I think it would behoove all of us to find ways to fix the problems (and that isn't going to happen by raising taxes on successful Americans or spending more money) instead of playing the blame game.

  10. Unfortunately, much of the grassroots, conservative movement is anti-intellectual -- the Tea Party is an excellent example of that. They eschew science and rationality for the Bible and "commonsense" wisdom.

Libertarians often get lumped in with these dodos when, in fact, most libertarians I know are actually well-educated politico nerds.

So is this the main reason why many guys support Sarah Palin?

Not as direct and truthful as "We have to pass the bill to find out what's in it" but somehow I find that quite a bit scarier.

The lies come from either side, it's called getting elected.

Those well educated Ivy Leaguers that have and are running the government (Clinton, Bush, Obama for example) along with well educated congress have been nothing but self serving through elected office. I find it fascinating how Obama adjusts his, as Harry Reid called it, dialect according to the audience.

Like a CIO at Lehman Brothers once told me, "I can completely destroy the infrastructure here and simply walk down the street and double my salary". That basically defines a well educated politician except people simply keep them in office, they don't have to walk down the street.

An example could be the repeal of the Glass Steagll Act, started by Republicans (Gramm and Leach) and signed by a Democrat (Clinton), this opened the real life Pandora Box for Wall Street imho.

  15. Interesting, but spurious, correlation between academic achievement and corruption. Not sure where you're going with that...

I'm less concerned with Ivy League politicians, and more concerned with people who are willfully ignorant.

I believe that more often than not they are the same animal, the willfully ignorant and Ivy League politician, especially if the situation warrants it.

As Jeff Skilling said at his Havard Business School interview when asked how smart he was, "I''m f***ing smart", tells me alot.

Hey everyone. I hope this doesn't cause too much confusion or inconvenience, but this thread rapidly became a political discussion, so I wanted to move it to where I feel it belongs.
