I am close to applying to the University of Wyoming for a BA in Social Science. They have the lowest RA 4-year college tuition that I am aware of. They are RA and are mainly B&M. They have a degree that I am interested in. They have no limit to the amount of credit that they will accept from college level exams. Of the 30 credits that I need to take directly from them, 24 can be done from their independent study courses. Lastly, if I feel adventurous enough to go for it, and if the American Opportunity Tax Credit is extended permanently, I would have enough tax credits left to get not just one, but to go for a dual degree (aforementioned degree + B.S. in Business Administration), for a net tuition cost of $0.00.

Your mission, and acceptance is mandatory , is to try to talk me out of it. Tell me that I "missed a spot" in my vast amounts of research. Tell me about all of the great schools that I have never heard of. Tell me about the school that is 1/2 the cost, with an even more flexible CLEP policy. Tell me how horrible the professors are. Tell me that they are credit card frauds, communists, body snatchers and puppy-kickers.

Anything you happen to know, at all, that would tell me that I shouldn't go ahead full speed. Anything at all that will make me regret having one (or two) of their diplomas hanging on my wall.

    And... GO!!!!!!

You can't get a degree at all, sorry. If you did, you would not have room in your sig line for that cool graphic of your name. So forget about it.

    LOL!

I could change my graphic to include the listing of my degrees in it. This would save more room, since I can arrange the space more efficiently.

I enjoyed my TESC experience but if I had known about the UW BSBA program at that point it's the avenue I would've gone through instead.... thus I couldn't see trying to talk you out of it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Texas beat Wyoming last weekend in college football so find another school.

Also, I can't think about Cowboys and Wyoming without the movie Brokeback Mountain coming to mind. Don’t do it. I think you should try UOP.

So you have to take two classes on campus? Is that what you mean by 24 out of the 30?

  9. What state do you live in?

All stupid jokes aside, I don't think you can go wrong with that choice. It's a respected state school. The only consideration is whether you have the ability to attend classes and the extra time to invest in attending on-campus classes. If you do, go for it!

WHAT?! You were, in fact, the very last person who complained about references to this schoooooo.... wow, I almost gave in to a little misnomer:)

No. Two classes can be online courses as opposed to independent study.

Do it! At $94 an hour and a good school....Call them in the morning, stop wasting time.

When you call them, ask if they take DETC credits.

  15. Curses! If only I had your state I could have stolen your identity and that of everyone in your state!

I only ask because if any of your local universities offer programs within 10-15k of the program you mentioned, I think it's worth going local.

Well, depending on whether or not you want to move and what you plan to do with it. I'd ask you those questions but then I'd be even closer to stealing your identity. muhahaha

Sorry, I can't talk you out of it either.

If you do visit there, just make sure you get a belt buckle in the shape of Wyoming and not in the shape of neighboring Colorado. I hear they're really particular about that sort of thing.

I think you're making the right move. May I ask why you decided to go with social science instead of psychology?

Oh heck, now you got me looking at another school/program. In taking another look at their BA in Psychology, I might go for a second bachelors degree! :D

BTW, how are you calculating that two degrees from U of Wyoming would run uou $0?

Best of luck with your decision (only you can make it!).

I'm more interested in Sociology than Psychology, and they don't have Sociology as a major for DL. Social Science gives me a good opportunity to explore both. Plus, UofWy has a large amount of independent study history courses, which would apply to the Social Science major. Then again, I may try to see if they will allow me to do my desired double major, if I transfer in some more Sociology credits.
    Linguistics!

I have used one year of the American Opportunity Tax Credit, which covered 100% of all fees I paid to Excelsior. I have at least one year left (this year), equal to $2000, $1500 of which I can use toward UofWy ($500 went to my graduation fee). That will cover, completely, four courses from UofWy and hopefully books too. If the credit is extended permanently, I will have two years left. Going for the single degree, one more year of tax credits is enough to cover everything. For the double degree, I would use my last year of tax credits. It probably wouldn't work out to exactly 0, now that I think about it, but almost everything would be covered with minimal expense.

...and only you all can convince me otherwise. You have so far failed at this task.
