My newest current degree program obsession is Liberty’s MA in Human Services (with a concentration in Health and Wellness, although their specialization in Business would let me transfer 6 cr in from my MBA). The curriculum looks pretty interesting. I think someone here has done that exact program (the Business concentration)- how do you like it? I checked their course guides and the workload seems doable… I work for the gov, have an interest in eventually doing nutritional consulting, and am starting to get really interested in international leadership/business theories… Would their MA in Management and Leadership be better? Or would that be redundant with an MBA? Thanks!
I'm in my last semester of the Business concentration version. I have enjoyed the program. It's a mix of psychology and sociology plus whatever concentration you pursue. The MAML is pointless if you have an MBA, IMO. Regarding transfer credit, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to transfer any credits from a completed degree.
I plan on calling them today, but can you transfer credits from a degree in-process? So if I have 6 Business credits, but not a completed degree, could I transfer those? I'm curious. The progam looks a lot like Amberton's M.A. in Human Relations and Business (mix of psych, soc, business, counseling, etc.)
Heather, when you call you might also ask about exempting from classes as opposed, or in addition, to transfering credits. I have found in several programs that the dean was willing to exempt me from taking at least 9 credits in one instance because they would duplicate courses in the program. This request is not the same as a transfer and would reduce the overall program needs.
Hi Heather, Given your interest in phytotherapy, I thought you might interested in the following: The American College of Healthcare Sciences (DETC-accredited) offers an online, 18-credit Certificate in Dynamic Phytotherapy Consulting. The certificate is 18-credits. At $255/credit (~$4900 for the cert), tuition is a bit steep for a DETC school. They also offer a diploma in dynamic phytotherapy, as well as individual courses.
Yes, my understanding was that Liberty University would only accept transfer credits from a not currently completed degree. Of course, you might go back and complete the degree later though, but that is out of their purview...
I'm pretty sure LU won't allow this. I transferred in six hours, and I had to get creative to do it (course substitutions, etc.). Regarding the business courses, they are flexible in one regard...you can request to substitute a course if you want to take a different business course. The process is very easy, and it's usually approved rather quickly. A 30 hour master's doesn't have a lot of room to cut classes.
You can transfer from an incomplete degree. I transferred six hours into the program this way. I had more credits, but six hours is the limit for the MA.
Yep, that's what they said yesterday when I called. I can transfer 6 max, and the degree can't be finished. It CAN technically be in-process as long as it is not completed. I really just like the curriculum. I'm torn, though, because I'm not sure if it would compliment an MBA or just be looked at as redundant. Really what I'm trying to do is get a mix of skills- the hard quantitative skills from an MBA and then the "soft skills" of management, human relations, cultural relations, etc. I think that gives a more thorough background in business than you get from just one degree. Amberton's MA in Human Relations and Business is similar and you can transfer in 12 cr (out of the 36 req), so either program is 24 cr. Obviously Amberton is much cheaper, but Liberty really has a good reputation and is a rigorous program (I looked at the course guides). *sigh* I just need to win the lottery and spend like $90k on all the degrees I want to do.
I hear you. I have thought about that Liberty Human Services masters degree from time to time as well... My complaint about it is it will be perceived as being too general. It seems to me that if you aren't on some sort of licensure or certification track, you need a degree that states counseling or psychology. Funding sources look for that in non-profits to kibitz on who will be paid from their pot of gold.
