I stick by my guns about the Muslim faith though.

You have some fair objections, really. I don't like how you generalize them all, though. You can stick to your guns... ok fine. I stick to my guns that the issue has little to do with religion. Seriously. If you replaced Islam with an international chess club, there would not be a lick of difference in the problems. To blame Islam is to completely ignore the true roots of the problem, like putting a bandaid on your stomach to treat an ulcer.

I've been sick as a dog for a coupla weeks and honestly only marginally aware of the mosque issue at all. Personally, I am for religious freedom 100%, so I feel it would be entirely wrong for anyone to say, "No, you can't build here." to any religious group.

On the other hand, from what little I know, the idea for building is something about fostering peace and understanding which? Erm... maybe you folks need to fire your PR people because they gotta be out of their ever-loving minds if they think *this* is the way to go about it.

You are speaking from total ignorance then. I've known multiple Muslims and they have all been very decent, peace loving people. People that some might call "good Christians" if they didn't know their religon. How many Muslims have you known? None?

If you read all of my posts and the postings of others you would see what else I said. But you have got that selective reading thing going on as other do. Once more this is just one more example of that band wagon effect I was talking about.

I've read all the posts in this thread. I notice that some others also seemed taken aback by your assertion that there's no such thing as a peacful Muslim. I didn't see anywhere that you responded except to say that you stuck to your guns on that. The band wagon that I'm on is that religious intolerance should not be condoned, that freedom of religon is an important right in this country. Sorry if I missed something but if I did, I don't know what?

you want to know where the money to build the mosque is coming from ?

    FOX News !

Jon Stewart: Fox News Is Either Evil or Stupid | Indecision Forever | Political Humor, 2010 Election, and Satire Blog | Comedy Central

there's no selective reading on his part.
you're prejudiced against muslims and that's a fact.

your own post points that out clearly

you say you have shown that Islam is not a religion of peace. You have not shown that at all.
All you have done is pointed out a bunch of radicals and applied their behavior to more than a billion people.

The problem with your whole argument is that you're a bigot. I live in new york city. I've lived here for over 30 years. I've worked with many muslims. I've been to their apartment. I've eaten their food. Never once have I felt in danger.
I have never had to worry about being a victim of a "weekly bombing"
I have never been the victim of a "forced conversion". I've never heard of muslim in nyc trying to "kill every last Jew"

The nonsense you spout about muslims could be applied to any group.

I could easily find 100's of articles that show a history of child sexual abuse by the catholic church over the past 50 years and a systematic effort of the top leaders of the catholic church to cover it up.
And this isn't just in America. This abuse is world wide. And the church doesn't dismiss the priest or even turn him over to the police. Thy just transfer him to another church and never inform the parishioners that he's a child abuser.

The catholic church has knowingly contributed to the sexual abuse of young boys for years.

    Vow of celibacy, yeah, right.

I say let's start protesting against all the catholic churches. They're much more of a threat to the youth of america than the muslims are.
    /sarcasm

wow ! Do you know ANYTHING about the history of the christian church ? !
surely you've heard of the Inquisitions, Martin Luther, Galileo.
    The Crusades ?

I'm sure Galileo just loved going on trial before the church, being interrogated, found guilty and imprisoned for life.

How merciful of them to let him serve his sentence under house arrest instead of a prison. /sarcasm

pick any random Arab or Jew from during the crusades and they'll have the same criticisms against christianity that you have about the muslims now.
They would mock christianity and its savior with his "love your neighbor as yourself" command.
Religion of love and forgiveness, yeah, right.

ah, but those catholic priests, now those are some guys who know to love thy neighbor (as long as the neighbor is a 12 year old boy)

as for Christians not forcing people to convert, you need to do some research and find out what's going on in India right now and what's happened in Africa in the past. Many christian missionaries have not been good ambassadors of christ, but have ridiculed and mocked the very people they were supposed to serve. They treated them as savages and forced "conversion" upon them.

oh, and I am a christian; presbyterian. Go to church every sunday.
so I am not prejudiced against catholics or protestants

I just think this is all bull

they are not building a mosque
they are building a cultural/community cneter with basketball courts and swimming pools that is open to the public

it is no different than a YMCA.
It is as much a religious building as the Young Men's Christian Association is

there is already a real mosque down there

the guy is not a radical anymore than Glenn Beck or George Bush is.
Beck said the same things this guy has said.
Bush was practically in love with the leader of Saudi Arabia.
And the same Saudi Arabian that's funding this "mosque" is funding FOX News!

(mmm, maybe we are in trouble)

Band wagon.....I cleared up my original post with a new post. I am sorry I different opinion then the rest of you guys. I have gotten about 12=14 post from members here you are basically saying to me they are scared to post their thoughts because of how unyielding the attack on me has been.
What really makes me mad is a person posted a comment to me in this thread about how I was wrong and then turned around and sent me a pm saying I was brave for saying all the things he wanted to say. Was it a Mod? hmmmm?

He are my pm’s to date with names omitted….

Another thing is that what was done in the past is the past. I live now. All the well Christians did this and Christians did that first is BS. Muslims were killing non-Muslims long before Christians landed on their shores.

What makes what I said so wrong? Does me saying Black people commit more crimes than whites make me a raciest? Does me saying over a million Muslims being led by a Cleric in a Chant to kill America makes them not a peaceful religion make me some sort of racist? Wake up people! You may know a few friendly American Muslims; do you think they are really going to share their true thoughts with you? Where does the bulk of the Muslim population reside? The freaking Middle East! The bulk of all Muslims would just as soon see us wiped off the map.

The same guy who paid for the flight simulator time the hijackers used to learn how to fly the planes into the twin towers. But he did not know what they were going to do with the training so he says.

there is already a mosque with in walking distance of ground zero. Its been there for over 28 years

The location is actually 11 blocks away, that’s not very close, 8 blocks to a mile. They started holding classes at a rented sight 4 blocks from the sight of the 9/11 attacks after 2008.

Masjid Manhattan the mosque that has been there for 30 years not 28 years, has raised over 8 million dollars to move even closer than the 13 story mosque to the 9/11 attacks. But oddly no one seems to care about this mosque; I got this information from the Fox News website.

I found an article Fox news did when searching for Masjid Manhattan, Fox news has a screen shot of their website it reads……

After the article from Fox they changed it to…..

Now even with the screen shot they are denying the fact they are going to build a new mosque or were planning to.

These Muslims at this mosque practice Islamic Shariah. Does anyone know what that means?

I started digging around on this mosques website, these peaceful Muslims scare me even more now, below are links to the scary pages on the site I found….

THESE ARE ALL LINKS AND INFORMATION TAKIN FROM THE MASJID MOSQUE IN NEW YORK.

Child out of wedlock if you Muslim? It’s called an illegal
child and is shunned ….this goes on in America???? These kind peaceful people???

Woman’s rights? Heck no!!!! Not these US Muslims that also claim to be moderates!!!!

Does anyone on this board feel that women and children should be treated this way?

    Nothing, if its true.
    Racist, no. Sweeping generalization, yes.
It's fair to categorize the whole based upon an evil few, yet it is not fair to categorize the whole based upon a good few? My disagreement with you from the beginning is based upon this exact selectivity. We are talking about a full 1/4th of the world's population when we speak of Muslims, and they are not all the same.
I hate to laugh if it is to be percieved as being at your expense, but I really can't help it: LOL! No, what you just said isn't true, yet you appealed to it as if it was a self-evident fact.

The world's largest population of Muslims is in Indonesia, followed by Pakistan, India and Bangledesh. There are more Muslims in Turkey than there are in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. There are about as many Muslims in China as there are in Saudi Arabia. By the way, about 16 million Muslims live in Russia, which is more than half of the entire population of Iraq.

Oh, and Malaysia is an Islamic Nation. They love America about as much as Americans do. Don't believe me? Take a look at their flag: Flag of Malaysia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Have you taken a poll?

True that this is bad stuff but it does not mean that most muslims are bad. It does not mean that most muslims want to destroy the USA. The rational for bigotory and intolerance is exactly this kind of thinking.

I went to 20 other mosques website in the US, 15 out of 20 had stuff at this level and much worse. I am studying today for a proctored exam I have this afternoon so I don't have time to post the info. 2 of the mosques had information on how to punish your wife and not get arrested in the US. That was the first 20 websites I could find and fifteen of them all had statements that would violate a females rights. 12 said it was ok to beat your wife and two told you how to do it. I know this is not all Muslims, but one has to question, is this the majority?

And Bill any comments on post numbers 46 and 47? Any apologies from you?
