    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that after a long, exciting, sometimes frustrating journey, last night I successfully defended my dissertation and have now earned my Ph.D.

It still hasn't sunk in yet!

I'm so grateful for all the support over the years by the members of this forum. I haven't been contributing much lately -- too busy writing the dissertation! :) But I'm checking in frequently and reading, and am so glad that a great support group like this exists.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Congratulations. For those such as myself who aren't familiar with you, what is your PhD in?

    JBjunior,

    Thank you for the congrats!

My degree is in Organization and Management, although my topic would fall under the area of OB. My dissertation is titled The Academic Expatriate in the United Arab Emirates: A New Lens Through Which to View Expatriate Sociocultural Adjustment.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

I don't mind at all Randell. Well, I started retooling for this field by taking MBA classes at UTexas - San Antonio in 2002-2003. Then I enrolled with Capella in 2004. I did take about a year break in 2006-2007 from classes, but then started up again and kept on. I think all total it took me about 6 years from start to finish.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Thanks Shawn! Unfortunately I can't get back to the U.S. until September, so if the Winter Commencement is held in Jax next year I'll make it to that one, as my family and friends are in Georgia/Florida. If it's in Phoenix, then I might just skip it altogether. But hopefully it'll be in Jax.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Hi Adrienne - It's been a long road, hasn't it? I'm so glad to hear that you successfully defended (not that we ever had any doubt) and that you've reached your goal. Please don't disappear from degreeinfo forever! As you can see from the other posts, there are many people who woulf benefit from your experience. I hope that you're going to take a big vacation soon - you deserve it! Then come back and tell us what you're doing next.

Thank you! My topic is around expatriate sociocultural adjustment. In terms of what I want to do with it, well, right now I plan to continue to be a senior HR Manager for a few more years to strengthen my skill set there, but I also plan to continue with my research agenda and publish, as well as pick up some adjunct teaching starting in spring. I plan to stick around the UAE for a few more years, then after that we'll see -- maybe back to consulting.

So, in other words, a loosely-organized plan, but the Ph.D. certainly gives me more options. But really, I've wanted this since I was a little girl (my dad was a prof), so even if I technically do "nothing" with it, I had to get it anyway as a personal goal.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Thank you Kizmet! I promise not to disappear -- and in fact should have more time now to post now that I'm done. :) I am planning a vacation -- in a week I'm going to Greece for a week then will come back to the U.S. for three weeks this fall. Then it's back to work and continuing with my research agenda and publishing my results!

    Cheers,
    Adrienne
