    Hi All,

First of all I'd like to say that this is a great resource for those like myself, researching DL options (MBA), degree reputations, etc. However......

...it is also the absolutely most frustrating forum I've encountered in a very long time.

    Why you ask?

Because as I take the effort to prepare a well thought out, detailed reply to someone and click submit I'm taken back to the login page, even though I've logged in already, and the effort taken to think through my thoughts, type them out, etc is wasted entirely. It's not like it takes two hours or anything, so why it times out and resets login within 10-15 minutes is beyond me and nothing I've encountered before on any forum.

I'm not trying to come out swinging and be overly critical, it's just that many of the folks here probably have very helpful input and limited and valuable time to get their comments added, and to have them disappear because the system automatically logs you out too soon is horribly aggravating and hopefully will be corrected sooner than later.

That said, I'll reiterate that the information on this site is great and I've wasted too much time at work just reading through it. Keep up the good work but please do what you can to fix the issue with posting and login timeouts.

    - D

We're aware of the problem, but have been unable to pin down the cause. It is not consistently reproducible and appears to only occur with certain members, and only at certain times or under specific circumstances.

My workaround suggestion until we solve the problem is to prepare your post in Word and then paste it to the post box. That way, if anything happens, you can simply paste it again.

But it is a problem that I expect we will have resolved within a few weeks, provided we can identify the circumstances in which it happens.

    I apologize for your frustration.

I used to hate it when that happened. (Not here, just generally.) The best thing to do to prevent this from ever happening again is to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, and then to get a free add-on for it called Lazarus. Lazarus remembers the information you add into a web form, so that if something happens, rather than lose all your work, you can just go back to that page, right-click, and restore what you've written. It's great!

Step one: Get Firefox for free here
Step two: Once installed, get Lazarus for free here

Being *ahem* a wordy person, this happens to me here all the time. But all I have to do is re-log in and it takes me back to the post I've already typed up and lets me submit it. I've never *lost* the actual post. It's still right there once I've logged back in. (And I am using Explorer.)

I just assumed it was like that for everyone.

It did it to me a few times, but like you said when I log back in I still have it all.

I have had this same issue on a frequent basis (particularly if it takes me longer than a few minutes to compose a post. I will hit send and I will be prompted to log in again. When I do, the situtationis like cjzande's above. (I am also a wordy person).

Ha! At least your wordiness is, you know, a very good and informative wordiness. Generally, I'm just the one who should be known as "She who will not shut-up about homeschooling!"

*blinks and looks around for a mod* - Hey, how can I get that put in under my name instead of "Registered User"? I know some people have had their "titles" changed... :D

I need that done for me as well, just not the homeschooling part... lol

To correct this problem, click the "remember me" box when you log in. The downside is that it leaves a cookie which logs you in automatically whenever you open the page. If you don't want that, you need to remove the cookie. My browser deletes all cookies when I shut down anyway, so that isn't a problem for me and might be a solution you could use as well.

Skip a day or two of posting and people think you have died...

As for where I am, I'm at least a 20 hour plane ride from where you are.

As a homeschooling Dad myself, that is one of the myriad of subjects that I am unable to shut up about :) Thank you for your kind words.

Thanks for the advice fellas. I've made it a habit to copy my text every minute or two just in case, especially before hitting the submit button. I'll try the log out and in again technique and see how that pans out, although I could have sworn I did do that. In any case, thanks for the tips!

Even easier, just copy your whole post into your clipboard before you submit. If there is a problem, just reopen the page and hit "paste".
