Has anyone taken any of the online courses from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (aka ABTech)? http://abtech.edu/pctraining/olc_class_schedule.asp Some of these classes sound interesting, and they are cheap (even compared to my local community college here in Canada) ... I wouldn't expect to use them towards a degree or anything, they would just be for personal knowledge/edification.
I do not have any experience with that particular community college in NC, since I live in the eastern part of NC, but those courses are from Ed2Go, which all of the NC Community Colleges have a contract with, to provide additional online offerings. Credit for those courses are for continuing education only.
Interesting, thanks for that info ... I checked the Ed2Go site, it seems like the prices for these courses vary widely. Do you know if there is any difference? If college A and college B both offer a course, will the content/delivery be essentially the same? I checked the price of a course listed on the ABTech website on their Ed2Go website, and it's listed as $65US (though it's listed as $55 on ABTech's own site): http://www.ed2go.com/abtech/online_course/itn/detail/Introduction_to_Networking.html However the same course is listed as $222CDN (=$216US) from a local community college: http://www.ed2go.com/slc/online_course/itn/detail/Introduction_to_Networking.html Enrolling directly through Ed2go costs $139: https://www.ed2go.com/classes/Enrollment/Enroll.aspx?CourseId=130 What gives? It seems like I should just browse through a bunch of schools listed on the Ed2go website to see who has the cheapest prices and take the course through that school?
Hello yes there is a difference, according to geographical area and how much the university or college wants to make from these courses. An example, one of the community colleges where I used to work, has these courses for $60 per course, while East Carolina University charges anywhere from $80 to $100 or more for some of the same courses. Also if you look through the various catalogs, not all of the colleges offer the same Ed2Go courses.
