    Hi All,

I learned from another forum that CalSouthern will be gaining DETC accreditation soon. Has anyone heard of it?

According DETC site, the institution is still under candidacy/applicant status.

"As of June 2009 the following institutions have submitted applications for accreditation to the DETC Accrediting Commission.

It is impossible for the DETC to predict the outcome of any school's application for accreditation, and there is no guarantee applicant institutions on this list will successfully complete the accreditation process. The list below is printed solely to solicit comments from the public regarding applicant institutions.

    * Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, Sherman Oaks, CA
    * American Fitness Professionals and Associates, Manahawkin, NJ
    * American Graduate School of Education, Tempe, AZ
    * BILD International University/Antioch School of Church Planning and Leadership Development, Ames, IA
    * California Southern University, Santa Ana, CA
    * ChildCare Education Institute, Duluth, GA
    * Martinsburg Institute, Martinsburg, WV
    * New Learning Resources, Jackson, MS
    * The Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, Freeland, WA
    * Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary, Newburgh, IN

    Hi Tekman,

Does Greendale Community College really offer Ph.D in Camaraderie Leadership?

The DETC website's calendar notes that they had an "Accrediting Commission Meeting" on January 16-17, so it's possible that word has leaked out about their decision to accredit CSU?
    http://detc.org/meetingsReports.html

Of course I've seen no evidence of that, just saying it's possible. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for DETC to announce newly accredited institutions after a meeting like this? I'm interested to see if Trinity Newburgh finally gains legitimate accreditation after their numerous false starts ...

nah, it doesn't. Greendale Community College is an NBC Community TV show's fictional college.

Of course, DETC does not have a "candidacy" status. Schools are applicants until they're accredited or rejected, with no formal status with DETC.

Because DETC accreditation is remarkably fast compared to regional accreditation, there seems to be no place for candidacy. But it might be a good idea.

As per an email I received from CSU: California Southern University just got word from the Distant Education Training Counsel (DETC) which is a National Accreditation body, that we have received our accreditation.

We are so excited and I wanted to shared this news with you.

We should have our accreditation listed on our website later today and it will take DETC 24 hours to list it on their website.

Apparently the American Graduate School of Education also received DETC approval, judging by the big DETC logo on their site :)

I received an e-mail from Carol Ryan, president of California Southern University in regards to DETC accreditation. Congratulations CSU. Well done!

"California Southern University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. The Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation."

So Cal Southern is now accredited by the DETC and they still have their PsyD programs. I wonder what Lord Levicoff (or anyone else) thinks about an NA PsyD.

    Congratulations CalSouthern!!!

and, what is wrong with a Psy D from a na school? The APA is a na agency. However, I do know that the DETC is not a specialty accreditation agency in that area but the reviewers who reviewed the psych programs and law programs were people with expert knowledge and credentials in those fields. Same as ra Psy Ds without APA accreditation.

Nothing wrong with an NA PsyD, at least not in my opinion. But there was once a thread on NA PsyDs (probably over at degreediscussion) in which some wrote vitriolically against the possibility.

    - ;) No no. I know your excited, but those are two different animals. DETC and APA accreditation is not the same. There is nothing wrong with an NA Psy.D. What NA Psy.D programs have to do now is rise to the recognition that RA Psychology doctorates currently have. If one of them can earn APA accreditation, that would be wonderful for DETC.

It won't be license-qualifying in many/most states. Here in California, SCUPS was already grandfathered into the state psychology licensing law as one of the California-approved psych schools. So while Cal Southern's receiving DETC accreditation is a step forward for them and they are to be congratulated, I don't think that the accreditation impacts the PsyD program very much.

It's still going to have the same profile in the profession that it had last week.

I'm just surprised that DETC allowed them to keep the PsyD. Especially considering that CSU is still marketing this as a clinical degree (unlike the RA accredited University of the Rockies, which has an online, but non-clinical PsyD).

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first DETC accredited school with a PsyD.
