I have taken bunch of course in computer science in community college. Turns out at least 30 credits don't match to Excelsior or TESC GE or computer concentrations. Both these colleges has free Electives. Excelsior has 15 Art & science electives and 12 free Electives. I was wondering if following are considered as electives; Calculus, Linear Algebra, programing courses, or any other courses not able to fit elsewhere. Any one please ?
As far as Excelsior is concerned, Calc and Linear Alg would be Art & Science electives (if you have the general math requirements filled up), and the programming courses would be free electives.
thanks for the clarification. One more thing .. What about courses like Soil Engineering, Contruction Technlogy, Surverying. These are some of the couses i took for my contruction engineering diploma. Excelsior doesnot award any contruction engineering program but do you think these can go in free Electives at least ?
excelsior requires a 2nd concentration of at least 12 credits and I think if the concentration is 18 credits they'll put it on the diploma so you'll have a BS in IT with a concentration in construction engineering and I'm suprised Calculus and Linear Algebra aren't requirements of the IT program most schools only allow 3-4 programing courses (9-12 credits) for an IT degree, because after that, its just repitition
Excelsior accepts all professional and academic courses as electives provided they are from RA colleges provided credit was granted. However there are exceptions to what Excelsior will accept - PE is one area - I had several units of golf which were rejected for my BS in Liberal Studies (for which I had roughly 60 units of engineering used as electives). Note: If you have excess credits keep them and aim for a second BS degree (my mistake was to allow Excelsior to put around 150 units to my BS when 120 would have sufficed).
