IIRC, it was United States International University.

The South Harmon Institute of Technology was from the movie "Accepted".

Part of it was. The other part was the California School of Professional Psychology.

Bob Jones University (no college should have 'Bob' in the name)
Academy of Arts University (are they an 'Academy' or a 'University'? Reminds me of the movie Dodgeball--the American Dodgeball Association of America)

By the way, LeTourneau is a very good institution; it's top-notch in aviation and engineering. It was established by R.G. LeTourneau, the "Dean of Earthmoving", who had more influence on the heavy equipment industry than about anyone else in the world.

My vote goes to Friends University. Not only is it just silly sounding, it's also located in Wichita, KS. Of course everyone calls it Friends University of Central Kansas :D.

Full Sail is certainly a contender. It sounds something like Aspire University or Full Steam Ahead University. The school fills a niche and seems to have a good program but I can't get past the name. UMUC just sounds like they couldn't decide on a name but wanted to make darn sure we knew it was a "Univeristy". Nova Southeastern sounds very SciFi, like maybe Captain Kirk was an alumni.

Other names that drive me nuts are California University of Pennsylvania, Peru State College, Ball State (I giggle every time) or worse Touro University International (sounds like a school started by the U.N.). As Dr. Bear noted Flaming Rainbow might just be a winner but Hamburger University will have to take the cake. :D

I like the sound of it, personally, but that could be a regional thing.

I think the name of the movie was Accepted.

Yes it was called Accepted. My wife and I watched in on our honey-moon over a large bottle of Cruzan black cherry flavored rum. :p. I recommend both quite highly.

California University of Pennsylvania is very confusing and you can add Indiana University of Pennsylvania to the list.

I rank IUPUI as the most confusing and the worst college name. It would seem to be a no-brainer for the state university authorities to rename it Indianapolis State University or something similar.

Exactly my thought the first time I heard the new name. But now that I am about to enroll I've decided to embrace the name.

If it wasn't for Excelsior I might never have been able to finish my degree.

I'm placing my vote for Nova here. No va in Spanish means "won't go". "Sorry my degree from NSU won't go".

    Well...

Sure, "no va" can mean "won't go" or "doesn't go," but that is taking one word and splitting it into two. "Nova" in Spanish could mean "makes new; renews" or... drum roll please... "nova." That's right! "Nova" means the same thing in Spanish as it does in English :banghead:
