Working on my CIS degree and there are the 3 schools I am down to. I need some opinions please. Which would you choose and why?
Although I never attended Troy, I am a big fan of the university. I know several ex-football players that love good old Troy. I also live a few hours away from Troy's campus.
In your list, I would choose: 1 - Troy University 2- Dakota State University 3 - Baker College I love Trojans
Is this through DL? I wasn't aware that Troy offered a CIS degree through DL (grad or undergrad), but they do offer Applied CompSci.
If you mean Athens State University; yes. The program; no. If you have a particular question holler back. If you want a CS program you should look at whether it is Accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission: CAC Search My recommendation goes back to the maximum utility, etc... of the program.
How important is ABET CAC accreditation for a CS/CIS program? I can't imagine that it would be as important as AACSB for an MBA or anything like that ... FWIW none of the CS/CIS programs noted in this thread are ABET accredited, nor is the CS masters program that I'm considering for next year.
In the right sector it is more important than AACSB is for business schools. Employers often will not accept non ABET degrees for engineering and computer scientists. If you plan to use the degree for business applications it may not be as important. Still it goes to do you want the best or is something else adequate. Keep in mind the greater utility.
I believe ABET is more important for computer engineering than CS or CIS as you need an ABET accredited degree to become a PE in most states. There are several good schools with good CompSci programs that aren't even listed. Even fewer schools offer ABET accredited information systems/technology degrees. I believe AACSB also accredits management information systems degrees.
I don't think Troy University's Applied Computer Science, or used to be Computer Science before 2006 enough for you to be in the software industry. However, more than enough into the Computer Networking environment.
I have not found any programs that are ABET accredited online that are semi affordable. FSU and CHICO are the only two I know about for sure and both are very expensive. If you know of one please let me know.
Vote for baker Baker baker baker.... Go things are going on Go Troy - USC University of Southern California FIGHT ON !
troy On a side note, get ready to watch Troy vs Florida next week in football. Number 1 is going down.
+1 for DSU. I'm a bit biased here - I love DSU. So far the instructors have been excellent and the coursework has been rigorous.
