As my wife, brought out her breakfast of cold pizza and coffee it got me wondering ...

I completely understand the time-honored tradition of cold leftover pizza for breakfast ... but with coffee??

(She also is a devotee of ice cream accompanied by Guiness.)

    Is it just me?

Any one else have a menu combo that makes the others in your life retch but you just love?

(Oh, she also likes to have a bacon-egg-cheese sandwich on a cinnamon raisin bagel!)

OK, now you've done it. You've really done it. You've given me the opportunity to unleash one of my totally irrational rules:

One must never, and I mean NEVER, put fruit on meat. No pineapple on the ham. No duck l'orange. No cranberry sauce on the turkey. no apple sauce on the pork chops.

Nada. Nunca. Niento. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

side dishes of fruit are marginally acceptable

Thank you. This has been a public service announcement. For further information please go to the websites of your local public health department and/or the federal center for disease control.

(my god, can we restore some sanity to this world?)

Personally, I think it's absolutely disgusting to see people eat eggs with ketchup.

THANK YOU Kizmet!!!!!!!! I knew there was a reason I liked you, you clearly have excellent culinary intuition :)
Here are some of my food rants:
If it can't grow it in the same place, don't serve it together. (catfish with kiwi relish =bad)
If the ingredients are from different seasons, don't serve them together! (asparagus and spaghetti squash = bad)
If you are mixing up continents, you're off track. (Curried tortillas =bad)
If it's the same color, don't serve it together.
If you need a molecular biology degree to create it- don't serve it period. (for the record, watermelon caviar is NOT caviar)
Finally, if the flavors go together, someone else already thought of it- if you're first, there might be a reason! Strawberry-Stuffed Salmon with Minted Mushrooms is NOT being "creative" LOL.

How about this one – meat should not be a condiment for meat. Bacon cheeseburger? I think I am going out on a limb here but what can expect from a vegetarian. ;)

Sounds like my breakfast today: cold soy cheese pizza with soy pepperoni and cold coffee (it was my third cup and was sitting in the pot)

For our book, "Not Your Mother's Cookbook: unusual recipes for the adventurous cook"** we invented a recipe game. One person writes the name of five ingredients on slips of paper and puts them in a bag. The other person draws out three, and is challenged to make a dish that uses all three in meaningful amounts.

We had some memorable disasters (something involving tunafish, chocolate, and prunes for instance) and some very interesting successes, such as Marina's eggplant cake (which included chocolate chips and cheddar cheese).

Garlic goes with everything. Lot's of garlic.

I sometimes like mustard on a fish sandwich.

I enjoy hot sauce, espcecially the hot sauce I make with peppers grown in my garden.

Hmmmmmm. peripherally related...i like scrambled eggs made with cocktail sauce (you know, the stuff that you dip shrimp into) and i like eggs with hot sauce.

common factor = eggs with red stuff onit/init

i don't really put ketchup (some say catsup) on anything. just chop up a tomato.

also, i hate pasta sauce from a jar. ick. just chop up a tomato and add some stuff. that whole garlic thing is working for me. an onion too.

    sorry, i'm drifting the thread.

Yeah, that's exactly what the tomato sauce people do, too. Try the vodka sauce from Trader Joe's (or Safeway) - it's really good. I'm not sure why they call it vodka; the last time I checked vodka didn't really have a taste of its own.

Topic: I sometimes eat noodles with ketchup. And I drink beer for breakfast (not regularly, obviously...).

I have to admit. I had to chuckle at this. My wife loves bacon on her burgers :) She also eats mustard with pretzels, which is bizzare to me. You know what else her family does that I find rather weird? I think it's an Italian thing, but they eat Tomato slices with huge chunks of Mozzarella.

I eat french fries once in a blue moon, but when I do and if available I'll dip them in mustard. I got the Idea from Slingblade. It grosses my wife out. Then again she's grossed out when I have an egg sandwich with mustard on it.

I'll try most anything but although intrigued, I've never had the guts to try one of these:
