Folks I have a couple questions for the experts (I haven't posted anything in a while). First question, I'm considering either an online doctorate or cags/specialist degree. The reason I'm considering a cags/ed.s is that I'm not sure that I have what it takes to complete a dissertation. I currently teach online (occassionally). Would a specialist degree continue to make me more competitive or would I need a ph.d? So far my school really likes my work because I stay on top of the game. Also, with my busy schedule I'mt sure if I can commit that much time to a doctorate, I would like to though. Second part, how is the work at NCU (should I go the doctorate route)? Is the work manageable or do you need to take a lot of time off and so forth. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Could you start out with a CAG / EdS at NCU and roll into the PhD program? I have been working on the PhD since 09/2004 and been taking two or three classes a year while working full time (50 hours), picking up a grad certificate from UF (3 classes), and teaching online for two schools. You would not have to take time off to go for a PhD from NCU. How fast do you want to complete it?
Hey Randall, thanks for the reply. I don't have a timeframe as to when I would like to complete a ph.d, so I don't mind taking 2-3 courses per year. I was just thinking maybe get a cags/eds and then later roll it over to a doctorate. My current online teaching gig continues to give me work. I'm hoping if I get a cags/eds that would kind of make me more qualified in the meantime while I pursue a doctorate. The thing that scares me is the dissertation that seems to be like the breaking point or where it separates the men from the boys.
The dissertation is a monster right now but managable...so far. I would go for a CAG and be sure it all rolls into a PhD. If a CAG was offered when enrolled, I would have gone that route. Hey, I think I will call and see if I can "pick one up" now.
Does NCU utilize weekly boards or is it mainly papers? I understand its just the student and the mentor.
