Dear me! There is no way that Snowflake, Vashti, and Athena would put up with being herded like that! They're just much too intelligent!

I used a squirt bottle to train my daughter's cats. It eventually got to the point where all I had to do was shake the bottle and they went into their room for the evening (I converted an extra closet into a kitty sanctuary to keep them from wandering around the house at night). It was funny watching two cats racing for their respective perches while I shook a bottle behind them. I also used a squirtgun to train them to keep off the furniture. Depending on which one I picked up they got the message and acted accordingly. (Although I'm not sure two cats qualifies as a herd.)

This method also works on teenagers who don't like to get up.

OMG, I hope this thread doesn't deteriorate too badly from here, but it is conceivable that a cat lover just might potentially interpret cat herding as sufficient cause for an animal rights protest.

WOW! That brought back memories... Back in undergrad when I was a comm studies major, I took a persuasion course and we had to analyze the rhetoric in that commercial. Fun times... fun times... I miss classes with Dr. Williams. :)

    Mr. Blackbird:

Have you taught online at Phoenix?

If so, how much do you have to do re syllabus preparation, discussion questions, exams, quizzes, grading, etc? I have heard fron others that all of this is provided to you at other online places, and that the hourly load per week is not that bad (<10 hours per course). At Phoenix, I have been told it's at least 20 hours, making the hourly wage really low.

Anyone else is free to chime in on this one. Thanks.

The rates are between $10-12 at UPenn in very high cost Philadelphia.

    Griffin,

It may not be "Federal" work study. It might be funded through other sources. I know that he gets all kinds of help through various special grants, gifts, scholarships, pay for special projects, etc. It might be as a part-time employee since he has money taken out for a "retirement fund" like adjuncts do at the same school.

    Well good for him.

Tim: It must be where I'm living, because in Oklahoma, San Francisco and Olympia, I have only ever seen lower pay rates.

I have recently sent Dr. Sam a PM apologizing for my over-reaction to this thread. He has accepted.

I had hoped that this thread wouldn't be resurrected.

UoP has done major website and course management system overhauls since BlackBird did his pre-employment training there. BlackBird may have had a point then but it is not true now. It is really simple and easy to use...a great improvement. There is only one access point and the menus are quite easy to use. I've used about six course management systems by now and this is one of the easiest to use, both as a student and as faculty.
