    Hey everyone,

I finally received a bunch of information regarding the Capitol College doctoral program and would like to pass it along to those who are interested. Here are some key points:

Degree Type: Doctor of Science (Sc.D)
    Program Type: Information Assurance
Length: Approximately 3 years Full-Time, 4-5 half time
Residency: 3 Weekends in Laurel, MD spread out over the 3 years
Start Date: Possibly, Fall 2009...more likely Spring 2009
    Cost: Unknown at the moment

In addition, I also received word that Nova Southeastern will be offering a PhD in Information Assurance as well. It is scheduled around the same time frame: possibly Fall 2009, but more likely 2010.

I forgot to mention that the Doctoral Program will qualify for the following funding opportunities:

Department of Defense: Information Assurance Scholarship Program (IASP)
Federal Government: Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service (SFS)

P.S is it me, or is the edit function missing now from posts?

Weirdly, I find zero references to this program on their web site, when I search their site for "Sc.D." I find nothing, when I search for "Doctor of Science" I find only references to where they've awarded it as an honorary degree, and when I read their accreditation statement it refers to Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees but not doctoral ones.

That is correct, no search on the web will find information regarding this program. But if you have been following its development, there has been rumor of the program for a couple of years now. I get this information directly from the program director of the information assurance program who I have been bugging for well over a year about the doctoral program. I been interested cause I would like to start a doctoral program soon and going back to Capitol might be ideal. An official release probably wont come out for a while (Late Summer 2009 possibly) and according to the program director, the first people that will be notified are alumni. Also, in my original post, "Spring 2009" should read "Spring 2010."

Very interesting! I live only a 45 minute drive away from Capitol College, not that it matters with DL, but I was considering their computer science program; still am, although I need to a few more undergraduate courses to meet the admissions requirements. Do you know if they are planning Doctoral degrees in any other areas?

FWIW, I talked to the a couple of the IA professors and one of the full-time folks back in '06 and was told that the program would start "next (06) fall," so I would take any time estimates with a grain of salt. It will probably happen, but I suspect that they will have a problem finding qualified faculty - most of the IA instructors there have terminal MSes, or PhD's in other areas. It certainly could be other issues, but I suspect that I'm correct, as I had one of the instructors in the program tell me that he'd probably be a student in the new program, and he was one of the heavy lifters in the IA program.

OK, so...don't hold your breath. And while you're busy not holding your breath, look elsewhere.

Hello everyone, I'm looking to get my Master in information Assurance from Capitol next year and was wondering if anyone went after the Information Assurance Scholarship Program? If so, was it a difficult process? Was the degree beneficial to your career?

    Thanks for your info

According to the Prof. heading up this PHD program he stated in our class tonight that the email went out to capitol alum. yesterday about this program and the application process. The program will take the top 25 for the first round and start a waiting list after that.
