Hi - Am Shah, Am completing my masters in Information Systems having one in CS already. Following degreeinfo since last 2 years, but wasn't able to register earlier somehow. I found this as the most helping resource about DL education, the info that is somehow hidden elsewhere.

Hi everyone, I am Carlton. I have completed three Associates (theoretically one), a Bachelors, a graduate Certificate, and a Masters. My Masters degree was roughly 96% online from brick and mortar school. I am currently considering an online doctorate degree that is not only accredited but would take me anywhere from 2 1/2 to no more than years to complete. I am also looking for the least expensive doctorates that have a great reputation.

Hi Carlton - Welcome to degreeinfo. You've got a little typo in your post and it messes up your question a bit. Maybe you could tell us what subject area you'd like to work in and also clarify your timeline a bit.

Thanks for pointing that out. I meant to say 4 between than and years. I'm looking for Doctorates either in technology, education, or a combination of both.

Doctorates in education, technology, or both? Cool! But technology and/or education? What does this mean? iT seems on one hand that this might mean one PhD in Education and one PhD in Engineering (or Engineering Technology) and, by the way, I know that the diff is that the tech is the serv of the engr. (even though i'm just a liberal arts grad student). Well, there is the EdD (and PhDEd) Sticky. And I knoe that there is no DEng (or PhDEng) Sticky. But there could be one such. Even though I am a PhDHumCult wannabe esp hopefully at Union, so I can be the fourth Union doc on the list. But I come from an entire dynasty of engineers and I am getting to the point where I'm about to say "Well, if you can not beat em, join em. " And, I often cinmpose various "degree lus lists." Sometimes I keep em all up in the head and sometimes I write em down. Welcome to degree info and good night! Oh! BTW -N EDIT!!! - wAIT A MINUTE! WAIT A MINUTE! WAIT A MINUTE! HOLD UP! HOLD UP! HOLD UP! EDIT - One More Thing! iT has also occured to me that doctorates in education, tech, or both might mean EdDs in Ed Tech! If that's the deal, they can be found on the EdD Sticky.

    Greetings,
I'm not exactly NEW, but I'm returning after a couple of lengthy absences. You might say that I'm starting over. I have some of the same questions this time around as I did in the beginning, just as a refresher and in case something has changed.

I'm primarily interested in CLEPing and other tests at this moment. I need to find a school that will accept most of the tests... then on to the portfolio assessments.

    Thanks,
    Bantockesq

Hello all! I'm a new member here, though I've been reading the forums and wiki pages quite a bit over the past few months. I won't say I'm unique among everyone here, but my story is a bit off the beaten path. I'm a (nearly) 40 year old professional; I've been a computer programmer for about 20 years, working for startups, fortune 500 companies, and everything in between. Lately I do mostly infrastructure sysadmin work, web development, and android app development. I make decent money and work 100% from home.

However, I never went to college, and in fact am a High School dropout. I got my GED at a local college in what would have been my junior year, and struck out on my own.

Lately I've had an itch to go spend some time in Japan and started learning the language a few months ago, only to discover the "college degree" requirement for a work visa, which started me down this path to an online degree.

I'm just getting started and haven't decided which school to use, and I'm not particular about the accreditation/pedigree. I just want a degree that satisfies Japanese immigration as fast as I can get one, same as everyone else in a similar situation.

So far I've completed two Aleks courses (College Algebra and Intro to Statistics) that were just accepted by ACE today. I'm busy putting together plans for TE and CO to figure out what exams I can take that will apply to both before making a decision on one or the other, or perhaps some as yet unknown alternative.

    See ya' 'round!

    Welcome!

What exactly are the Japanese immigration requirements in regards to a degree? That will have a serious impact on which school(s) you decide to go with.

This is a source of a lot of confusion. If you ask on any expat forums, the canned response is that "a four year degree from an accredited college or university" is required. However, the actual text on the Immigration website states only that you must have at least three years of experience or have graduated from college.

It says nothing about accreditation, the type of degree required, or how long it (traditionally) takes to earn.

Employers/sponsors have their own separate requirements. Some (like the JET program) explicitly require a bachelors degree, others do not.

Right now I'm playing it careful and studying/testing only for things I know will be accepted for gen ed @ COSC or TESU, since they should be accepted just about anywhere else as well, but I'm interested in other options with "lesser" accreditation that may be faster to complete.

Since the degree itself isn't relevant to my current or future career path, the "quality" isn't nearly as important to me as it is to most.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm James, 31 years old. I have an Associates of Arts in Information Technology and am wrapping my Bachelor of Arts in History (expected completion of winter of 2017 or earlier). Both from the University of Phoenix. I hope to get some useful information on this forum to relocate to another University to continue my pursuit of a Masters degree in History. Look forward to speaking with you all :)
