Hello All! Just registered here after using some of the forum threads for the past few years of deciding on my graduate school. So far I've tried all styles of distance learning except international study. I'm really glad that traditional schools around me have embraced online courses and programs. It goes a long way for accessibility for disabled students in particular. If anyone has questions about schools in Michigan I'd be happy to try and answer.
Hello Everyone, I'm new here and I'm eager to find as much information as possible about portfolio assessment, test taking and other loop-hole laden, yet ethically appropriate measures to help me earn my BA in Journalism. I have to make up for lost time, as I'm starting to explore higher learning at much later stage in life than usual. From there I'd like to acquire my masters degree. For me, a degree at this point is the difference between having to write several articles for the same amount someone with a degree would make having only to write one or two. Don't get me wrong, I love writing, but I'd like to get paid what I'm worth. After reading some of the info in the forums about the various ways to shorten the amount of time it would normally take to earn a degree I realize that I have so much more to learn! So, if anyone has any suggestions to speed up the process, I'd love to hear it. Also, I'm confused about why so many people are saying to take FEMA classes. FEMA credits can be helpful as they are low cost credits that can be accepted for transfer toward a degree. Normally a Bachelors degree requires 120 credits, many of which fall into the category of General Education credits. The FEMA credits will be accepted as such by some schools. As for trackback, I'm probably not the best person to answer. I believe that it's a methods of linking back to websites or specific areas od websites. Google it and I'm sure you'll find lots of info on the subject. Go to the CLEP/DANTES forum of this site and pay particulat attention to threads about "the big 3." Good luck!
Thank you Kizmet. I applied to TESC and also the FAFSA and contacted them. I'm just waiting for a reply so I can get started. I read all about the Big 3 and I'm very excited to begin exploring my options! I posted that I wanted to get a degree in Journalism, but actually, I had to choose something on the application and that's what I chose. What I want is to major in........ anything...... that will help me get what I need to finish the degree quickly. I'm sure everyone says that. I feel like once I have it behind me, I can enjoy the masters degree process.
If you're going to attend TESC, you can't use FEMAs. You can use them at Charter Oak State College, though.
Sanantone: Thank you for your input. Is there a benefit to applying to both schools? I'd certainly want to take the FEMA classes, but then I'll have to pay, in the end to transfer them to TESC. I'm sure it will probably still be cheaper than taking the classes themselves. The advice in this forum is priceless and greatly appreciated. What are the benefits to each school? Is there a place on line where they have been compared? I just found out that it is going to take about 8 weeks+ for me to find out about financial aid, whether I'm "accepted" (when they can get around to processing my application) , etc... what can I do in the meantime to make the best use of my time? Should I start on my portfolio assessment? Is there a class or video or anything that would help me better understand how it should be compiled? I have a basic knowledge of it, but I want to make sure my folders are well received.
Okay, I believe I just came to a realization. Firstly, I've found that TESC has 2 classes giving the low-down on portfolio assessment and credit is assigned for those classes, however, since financial aid doesn't cover portfolio assessment or exams, I'm pretty much either paying cash for these assessments or hoping to get a student loan. Is this right?

Hello everyone, My name is Kenny from Cocoa Beach, Florida and I am new here. I am in the process of earning my A.A. in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix and only have 3 weeks left in my last class!!! I found this site because I am doing a ton of research as to where to go to start my undergrad studies and pursue my Bachelors. I had been out of school for quite sometime and did not do much research when I signed up for UoP...all I knew is that it was online and thats exactly what I needed with 3 kids, and working a fulltime job. After 2 years I have a 4.0 gpa and am ready for the next step, but I do not want to do it at UoP Not only do I want to find an online school with a better reputation than UoP for my B.S., but I am also looking for something cheaper. I am running into many of the state universities here in Florida will not accept all my credits and would make me take a bunch of Gen Ed classes. Even though the the cost per credit is WAY lower....with all the extra classes I would have to take....It would end up costing the same or more. I am looking to find a school that will take all or most of my credits.....I have some credit from my military service, some from the Art Institue of Philly and my 50 from UoP....together they will make up my credits for my A.A After looking through the post on this site...I have looked into Bellevue and Patten and found they claim they will take ALL credits. Patten is $199 a month this month but no financial aid........Bellevue is $385 per ch....about what I have been paying at UoP for my AA...but UoP's BS classes are close to $600 pch. I also am waiting to hear back from Florida International University as they are in the process of evaluating my credits to see how many they will take. Does anyone here have any other suggestions or advice for me? I just want to make an intelligent choice and get my degree from a school with more prestige than UoP that wont hurt my pocket too much....if thats even possible! Any and all input will be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone--I've been lurking for a long time and using your posts to research degree info for myself and my friends. I love learning and I apparently have a specific face I make when I'm thinking about or talking about classes. I'm about to get a second master's degree in creative writing from a low-res MFA school, and I'm enrolled in WNMU's MAIS program (this is the only place where I can say that without feeling bad). I registered so I could share whatever knowledge I have with people who are asking questions that I can answer, and also to maybe ask questions of my own. Hi everyone! I am Jody, a stay at home Mom with 42 possible credits from a State University. I recently enrolled with Excelsior and then stumbled accross Insta Cert Degree Forum and immediately ate the $100.00 app fee and decided to enroll in Charter Oaks State College to earn my BSBA. The reason I decided to switch college's is due to the fact Excelsior only offered a BS with a concentration and COSC, as of July 2015, will be offering an accredited BSBA. I chose COSC over TESC soley on the pricetag. While completing my app for COSC, one of the options to choose as a referral was this forum, so here I am! I have already gained so much knowlege from the other forum, I am hoping to eceed it with this one as well :-D I am really excited to get my transcripts evaluated and start my new journey!
