Normally is a flat fee per course and the per student pay. But $40 dollars indeed is low. I know panhandlers that make more money just by standing on the street(no much effort required).

Would you like fries with that term paper?

That is the wave of the future for low pay for online adjunct instructors! By the time all the work is factored in, it comes out to about $8 an hour at some institutions!

Eventually, something will have to give with the online adjunct-pay market. Remember: you get what you pay for. How many online adjuncts are willing to provide the level of academic service that a school wants for $8 an hour? The pay will never return to what it once was just five to eight years ago. Those days are gone forever. The whittling-away-at-the-pay will invariably continue until _______ ?

Will that be paper or plastic? :D

For those in the know; is there a large pay-gap for those who teach as an adjunct professor at a NA versus a RA school? I was curious if the accreditation had anything to do with salary.

Really, I teach for one of each and they pay about the same per course (within $100 of each other).

    WOW - I can't "semi-retire" from corporate politics & babysitting on $8/hr or $40/head.....

Maybe we should start a Union drive for PT Adjunct Online Instructors......

Or, ignore the low pay all together.....maybe they can outsource to India (chuckle) ?????

It is already happening, quite few schools hire online teachers from India. As online PhDs become more accessible, Indian citizens can have online PhDs from RA institutions and qualify to teach online.

Let me take a guess - India Phd's located in India are teaching American's English, right:confused:

Why not? Thanks mostly to being a former British Crown colony, roughly 10% of India's billion plus population speak English as a second language.

Most of the stereotypes we learned in school simply no longer apply - particularly when it comes to who is on the way up and who is on the way down.

While that's very true, actually he tripped the claxons for me in the second paragraph with that comment about most professors in his department expressing
"nothing but contempt for both graduate students and undergraduates." All those PhDs and no one has connected the dots that there might be a correlation between that mindset and the root cause why "the departments national reputation plunges every year."
