Ashland University www.ashland.edu offers a Master of American History and Government (MAHG) program http://mahg.ashland.edu which, while not exactly distance learning, nevertheless qualifies as a non-traditional residential program. This summer-only program is based on one-week (2 hour) courses. Courses http://mahg.ashland.edu/about meet six days a week (Sunday to Friday). The website advises that the fastest time to completion is two years, which can be accomplished by transferring in the eight hour maximum, completing ten hours in each of two summers, and completing the four hour thesis during the academic year. Maximum time in program is ten years. If one were actually intent upon burning up ten years time in program, this could be accomplished by completing one course (2 hours) in each of the first nine summers (thus completing one's first 18 hours), then completing one course in each of five out of six one-week sessions of one's tenth summer (thus completing one's remaining 10 hours of coursework, for 28 hours total), and completing 4 hours of thesis credit during the academic year. The program requires 32 hours (28 hours of coursework and a 4 hour thesis) http://mahg.ashland.edu/curriculum with six one-week sessions available per summer http://mahg.ashland.edu/schedule (this is improving; originally, there were only four one-week sessions, then five, and now six). Tution http://mahg.ashland.edu/tuition is $468/hour, for a total program tuition of $14,976.

The Union Institute & University www.tui.edu has a Master of Arts Online program www.tui.edu/academics/master-of-arts/index.html which requires 36 hours in which one can earn the MA in History & Culture www.tui.edu/academics/master-of-arts/history-culture.html. Tuition www.tui.edu/admissions/cost.html is $7,821/semester full-time (12 hours) for $23,463 program tuition, $5,854/semester three-quarter time (9 hours) for $23,416 program tuition, or $3,911/semester half-time (6 hours) for $23,466 program tuition. The Union Institute & University is accredited www.tui.edu/about/accreditation.html by the North Central Association.

You can actually take up to two courses per semester at the in-state rate. In the summer you can take even more. My wife and I are both in the program and really enjoy it.

    Foreign Master's Degrees in History

On the foreign master's degrees, were you interested exclusively in the thesis-only master's programs or were you also interested in taught (coursework-based) master's programs available by distance learning?

Honestly either would work. I have looked into the Master of Letters at UQ University in Australia, UNISA, Cape Town, Pretoria, and two Swedish program (Religious Roots of Europe and African Literature and Post Colonial Studies).

I have also spoken with another poster here regarding DL in India.

This would mainly be for personal enrichment / resume booster for the possibility of teaching history at the CC level and maybe boosting pay for my teaching position (I would need to have it passed through service to verify the state of TN would accept it).

Wow I wish I had known about the Religious Roots of Europe one. That would have been great. Too bad the deadline has well passed.

I wonder if I could have meet the Swedish Bikini Team :)

The deadline has passed but you can still register. January 15th was the deadline unless courses have failed to produce enough enrollment, which that one did. You should be able to register then become a late add.

When I asked Dalarna they told me they lump international students "free movers" with EU and Swedish students anyway and that as long as you were able to register you should be fine.
