As an active Twitterer, I twitted Degree Info with the hope that others having questions about distance degrees would pop in to ask questions or contribute.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is twittering?

Hey Bruce - I've never been twittered without expressed previous consent. You?
Isn't there some way we can say this is a violation of the TOS? ;)

All it did was draw attention to the board's content. If that does not fit into the TOS, neither did your recommendation to a colleague that they drop in here - nor a conversation with your coffee klatch buddies. I twittered no specific individuals.

Here's hoping Santa brings you a special gift - a life.

    I thought it was funny.

This is the first Christmas in Southern Cali I remember where it rained. I am a native, so this is kind of exciting for me! I love it.

    Merry Christmas!!!!!!

It's a line from a Bill Murray movie, "Stripes." BTW I've been breathing fine all along.

Francis Sawyer is a mentally deranged person who insists that everyone calls him "Psycho", and if you call him Francis, he'll kill you. Drill Sergeant Hulka then says "Lighten up, Francis".

    Funny movie, Bruce.

Brings back memories. I was doing my first stint in the Army when it came out.

    Bruce,

The only way to really get it is to watch the movie. Yes, it was very funny in the bit in which it was said. LOL.

Here is some for you to see Kizmet. The bit on Francis is in there.

Looks like I'll have to rent Stripes and take a look. References like this are not universal.

It's an awesome movie, well worth whatever the rental fee is.

Just wondering what it means to be a twitterer or to twit a board.

I just posted a reply to your question, Ted, and it blew up. If it does not show up a bit later, I'll redo it.

In the meantime, go to http://twitter.com and look at the buttons and video. I'll re-post my scenario a bit later.

Back for a few moments, so here is how twitter can be used in an academic situation:

Imagine a group of marketing profs. Each joins twitter. If you follow me, you will see my twits, if I then follow you, I can see yours (following and followed) or vice versa.

Let's suppose I am scanning my resources on the web and see a page that might be of interest to the group. Using a Firefox add-in (twitthat) I can, then twit that page directly. When you come up in twitter, that twit will show and you can decide if you want to pursue the link. If you do and don't like it, no big deal, it took about two seconds to make that decision. If you like it, you can read it then or bookmark it for later reference or use. The reverse is true if it is you who finds the resource and twits the group.

It does away with you having to go to my blog or get a newsletter with hot links.

I use twitterfox add-in so each new twit pops up at the bottom of my screen for a user-set time frame and I can click on the link and go from the notification rather than look at my twitter page.

The twitterfox link at the bottom of the browser will bring up the last 25 twits or so, if you choose to ignore the pop-ups. Clicking on any of the links brings up a new tab with the webpage in it.

That is the nuts and bolts of it.

Fairly accurate. There are also collaborative groups there.

Another user type is the one who uses twitter as an ersatz chat, direct mail medium.

Always check out your followers before following them, if you do follow and they turn out to be much different that you thought - unfollow. By checking them out, I mean looking back over 4-5 pages of their postings to see what their major content is.

I publish some original content, link to a separate blog I have (memoriesofawarmkitchen.wordpress.com), and push a broad range of news from a variety of sources. And I have fun.
