I first posted on this board one year ago inquiring about options for my DL MBA degree. After great advice from the members, I decided to start my journey at Ashford on 11/30/2010. As of October 3, 2011, I now have an MBA degree! I took the first two classes individually, as required, and doubled up the rest of the way for a 10-month MBA (even had to appeal their maximum credit limit per academic year).

I ended up with pneumonia at one point, but still made it. The best part? I somehow managed to pull out a perfect 4.0 across the program.

    Jeff,

When considering the doctorate option - what is the promotion and tenure process at SOSU? If a doctorate will assist you in that process, then you might want to consider earning one. If that's the case, don't rule out an EdD option.

Promotion and tenure don't directly enter into the decision as I'm in a non-tenure-track position, though it is possible I could move to tenure track if a position opened up. In my current position, an appropriate doctorate would lead to a reasonable raise. So part of the decision is financial, and I just can't make NCU or CTU numbers work financially (and I'm not enamored by their programs). DSU is cheap and I am enamored by Mississippi State's program (I *like* math, so operations research classes are more appealing than any wishy-washy CIS graduate classes).

At my last institution, they would have taken an EdD (but not a JD, for what it's worth). They just wanted doctorates to pad some stats they published. At SWOSU, the doctorate must by in a correct field (which is dependent on what you teach). An EdD won't get me a raise. The D.Sc. from DSU most likely will since it is in Information SYstems. The Ph.D. in Engineering from MSU may or may not (I have to find out before I go much further).

But that's a good question - how schools perceive degrees that are slightly (or a lot) outside of your teaching field is a critical factor in deciding on a program. Every school is a bit different, it seems.

Thanks to all who have shared their success stories.

Any advice on how to stop research and analysis and move on to starting something?

General Studies - Liberty University (Aug 2011). I really didn't need to get this one but I was so pumped about having the hours that I applied for the hell of it. :lew:

I'm currently finishing up my last class at Liberty and cannot wait to receive my B.S. in Multidisciplinary Studies in a few weeks.

This forum has been of great help to me. Without DI I would have blown the last of my GI Bill on a UOP certificate. Instead I put that money to good use and will graduate debt free.

Nothing wrong with that....on my "to-do" list is go back and take one more course (online) at UMass-Lowell to get the Domestic Violence graduate certificate.

It just makes me laugh that you said you would get the AA "for the hell of it" from a christian school. How is that for immature of me!
