Thanks for that information, for quite sometime I wanted to ask you about this, but for one reason or another I did not. I am hopping to be done sometime in 2010.

It really is a daunting process, unlike anything else that you'll ever experience. Hang in there!

I am working towards completion of my doctorate (Ed.D.) in Science Education (Geoscience, Curriculum/Instruction) at Montana State University...I am just a shade over 1/3 through...should be finished by end of 2010. (keeping fingers crossed) ;-)

Can JD be classified as Doctor? I meant it is Juris Doctor, but I look at every single Attorney's business card or profile "MISTER."

Yes, most colleges and universities will classify (and pay) a faculty member with a J.D. as equivalent to other doctorates (Ph.D., Ed.D., etc.). What is interesting is that my colleagues who teach in schools or colleges of law tend not to use the title "doctor," while those with J.D.s who teach in fields outside of law all refer to themselves as "doctor".

Update, my orals are now September 28, 29 and 30 2009. Slowly but surely the turtle gets there. Looks like my defense is July 2010. At UH, still well up in the air. Going really slowly I might add. I am thinking 2013.

Is that for the PhD in History at the University of Houston www.uh.edu or the DA in Social Science at Harrison Middleton University www.chumsci.edu ?

The information on the orals and defense of dissertation...HMU. The process at UH is at least 2013 if not 2014. Depends on DA and committee...and me.
