I would appreciate if all the Seniors and Experts here can give me advice on this 2 schools and programs. What do you guys think of this 2 programs? Is Executive Master of Accountancy offered by Rutgers or Executive Master of Science in Finance offered by CUNY looks more favourable for banking and finance?

Also, will appreciate if you can tell me whether Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey or Baruch College, City University of New York is more reputable, ranking etc..?

OK, these are in Singapore - maybe that is why I did not find them on the US site.

Disclaimer: I did no look at these programs in detail, but I a couple initial thoughts since no one else has responded:

If you would like to be an accountant the Rutgers program might be good and I think Rutgers has an edge on name brand and it may qualify you for certifications (i.e. CPA). Otherwise, the MSc Finance from CUNY may be a better degree for Banking/Finance.

There are so many variables in choosing a program. Some thoughts/questions:
    1. What about your current degree program? Would this be an addition or will it replace that degree?
    2. Do you plan to land a job in the US? or Singapore? or _______?
    3. Have you thought about a FT residential (traditonal program) ... especially since you are not working and have dreams of a top ranked residential doctorate.
    4. What are your're career plans? Accounting? Finance? or _______?

I see. Yeah. This 2 programs are offered in Singapore for working professional, and i do know the different in them. whether to be a Accountant or Banker.

    As for your qns..My ans are as below;

    1. What about your current degree program? Would this be an addition or will it replace that degree?

I am currently studying FT MSc Finance in China, but as it's so difficult to understand the chinese professor, i have decided to withdraw and study in Singapore. So it will replace of what i am currently studying.

    2. Do you plan to land a job in the US? or Singapore? or _______?

Maybe, in future...I will be working in Singapore at this moment. Masters from this 2 Universities are widely accepted in Singapore and worldwide becos of its prestigious and ranking.

    3. Have you thought about a FT residential (traditonal program) ... especially since you are not working and have dreams of a top ranked residential doctorate.

I would like to study FT, but they only offer PT for this 2 programs..hence i have no choice. Masters programs offered by distance learning in Singapore are mostly PT, except National University of Ireland, but i prefer this 2 programs.

    4. What are your're career plans? Accounting? Finance? or _______?

I was working as a Relationship Manager for the past 5 years, mostly investment sales forcus. I am planning to work as a Financial Analyst or Credit Analyst once i finish my master, and i realized that the requirements for FA which most employers are looking for is CFA holder (note: MSc Finance are incorporated with CFA curriculums) or with Accounting degree, so i am wondering shall i go for accountancy or finance major? since accountancy can be apply for positions in banking and finance industry too especially for positions are that financial related.

What's your thoughts? Which program shall i go for?

Either program should be fine if you plan to work in corporate finance or in a back office position on the investment side. If your desire is to work in the front office (i.e. trading or portfolio management), you should shoot for a top 20 MBA program. The CFA will help you move up after you have the position.

I think either degree would help qualify you for either of those positions. Rutgers will most likely be the most recognizable, name brand wise. I think the MSACCY may provide the best background for the Financial Analyst and the Credit Analyst positions. Add a certification like the CPA and you will be hot hot hot!

The fact that these are part-time programs could be beneficial as you could look for work while in the program, but always explain the employment gap on the resume was due to being in a graduate degree program.

I have experience in the Credit Analyst role, so let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your advice..One more qns is even though either degree will qualify me for either of the position i am seeking, but which degree will have more utility if i am to seek jobs outside banking/finance industry? for example..manufacturing, IT, medical..where accounting is required etc..

I am just wondering...Finance degree is mostly used for employment in the banking and finance sector, especially in banks, fund houses, investment/private banks, but whereas Accountancy degree allows me to apply job in banking and finance as well, but also other industries where accounting is required. Whereas Finance degree will not have the same utility compared to Finance degree...Correct me if i am wrong.
