Are there any colleges that will give credit for the Navy E5 or the Air Force E6 enlisted ratings in leadership/management

I was on active duty in the Navy and attained the enlisted rate of E5 (AT2).
I looked on the SMART transcript and there was no credit awarded.

I went into the Air Force Reserves and attained the rank of E6 (Avionics).

All total I have 13 years of service.

Other than Smart (Navy) and CCAF (Air Force), are there any colleges that give credit for leadership or organization theory/management?

    Thanks, Jim

I believe most colleges will only award credit based upon what is listed on your SMART or CCAF transcripts. Alternatively, you may want to check out one of the SOC-affiliated institutions and see if they automatically award credit in leadership/organization based upon your rate. The Education Officer at your state VA may be able to give you more information about which colleges may offer this. For more information, check here: http://www.soc.aascu.org/

I’m sure they have something like the Army had. I was in the Army for 4 years, and much later in life discovered http://aarts.army.mil/

I went to it and they didn’t have my records, so I called them, and they had to activate my SSN in the system.

I can to this day go to this site and order a free transcript that gives me the below credits, which I would assume would be accepted anywhere that takes ACE (copied just now from my persnal records search):

ACE Credit Recommendation for 97B20: IN THE LOWER-DIVISION BACCALAUREATE/ASSOCIATE DEGREE CATEGORY, 6 SEMESTER HOURS IN SOCIAL SCIENCE, 3 IN POLICE ADMINISTRATION, 3 IN INDUSTRIAL SECURITY, 3 IN UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, 3 IN APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY, 3 IN REPORT WRITING, 1 IN TYPING, AND ADDITIONAL CREDIT IN PERSONNEL SUPERVISION AND OFFICE MANAGEMENT ON THE BASIS OF INSTITUTIONAL EVALUATION. NOTE: ADD CREDIT FOR THE SPECIFIC FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATION IN THE DOD VOLUME OF THE GUIDE TO THE EVALUATION OF EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN THE ARMED SERVICES.

    Basic Training:
Recommendations: IN THE LOWER-DIVISION BACCALAUREATE/ASSOCIATE DEGREE CATEGORY, 1 SEMESTER HOUR IN PERSONAL PHYSICAL CONDITIONING, 1 IN OUTDOOR SKILLS PRACTICUM, 1 IN MARKSMANSHIP, AND 1 IN FIRST AID.

    97B10 Training:
Recommendations: IN THE LOWER-DIVISION BACCALAUREATE/ASSOCIATE DEGREE CATEGORY, 3 SEMESTER HOURS IN SECURITY TECHNIQUES AND 1 IN LEGAL PRINCIPLES.

    97B20 Transition:
Recommendations: IN THE LOWER-DIVISION BACCALAUREATE/ASSOCIATE DEGREE CATEGORY, 3 SEMESTER HOURS IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION (INVESTIGATION AND INTERVIEWS).

  5. i cant speak for the air force but for the navy you should have a ton of credits, probably not in leadership or management. That comes at the E7 and above level. i dont think any college is going to get you more credits that than what is on your smart. So if it is not on there your out of luck, UNLESS you want to do that portfolio thing, i dont know much about it but it is something like convincing the college that your experience is at the college level. Or you could just take the management clep or the dantes supervision exam, they are really easy epically if you have been in a leadership position or taken a leadership class like NAVLEAD

If SMART is the Navy AARTS, and you don't see anything listed, try calling them to make sure it is up to date. I had to call them about 5 years ago when I discovered AARTS because what ever the process for getting my records visible was, they had not done it. After the call I had something like 33 undergraduate credits (posted above), and I was only in for 4 years as an E4.

    SMART = AARTS

You do have to contact the folks at SMART to make sure they have everything updated. When I first checked my SMART, there was nothing on it. After contacting the Navy office in charge of this (contact info on the Navy SMART web site), I had about 90 credit hours, and I was an E5 when I left the Navy. I do not have any leadership or management credits on my SMART.

CCAF is the minimum, if you're considering experiential credit for "time served." Consider instead the potential credit you can earn through a thorough portfolio process like the one offered by TESC.

I just checked my SMART Transcript. I have approximated over 120 College credits (both Lower and Vocational). These credits from the Marine Corps Institute courses, DANTES, CLEP, Defense Language Program, and Military training. In my transcript, about 20 courses were evaluated by ACE. I am wondering if I can a second Bachelor degree somewhere by using these credit without taking any courses.

I only have 30+, and they all say LOWER-DIVISION BACCALAUREATE/ASSOCIATE DEGREE CATEGORY

Maybe an AA or AS for sure with 120. Do you have any that are not lower-level?

I do have the SMART transcript. I have 81 credit hours from the Navy.
CCAF awarded me 31 credit hours from the Air Force. I was an E6.

    Thanks, Jim
