Today my 15 year old daughter took on the American Government CLEP. She passed with a 54. She indicated that it was difficult and she could have put in more time into prep.

    We used:

    Cliff Notes American Government
The Idiot's Guide to American Government
    Official CLEP Guide
    Peterson' s Practice Test

In addition, she reads the Wall Street Journal daily, and there is a great deal of politics discussed around the kitchen table. So, going into the junior year of High School, she has 9 credits through CLEP, and 7 credits of math through Clovis Community College. She is enrolled at Clovis again in the fall for Trigonometry.

That's awesome. I am getting ready to order a Penn Foster course for my 16 year old here in the next few days.

That's awesome....I wish I knew about CLEP and DANTES when I was in high school.

Please tell your daughter we're very proud of her!

Does your daughter take distance ED classes at Clovis or do you guys live in New Mexico and go to the campus?

How did they admit her to take classes with no GED, High School diploma, etc?

Capella Rocks is in Wisconsin (look at "Location"), so I have to go with DL. :D

Not unheard of at all; I took a community college History course (just because it interested me) during the summer in-between my junior and senior years of high school.

    Shawn,

Congratulations to your daughter! She's going to have her colleges beating down her door in two years.

Clovis is easy to work with - I just called them, and we explained that we wanted our daughter to take some classes. My daughter took the Accuplacer assessment, Clovis sent me a form to fill out, and we registered on the net. Done.

And Bruce is right - all by DL. :)

My daughter is going to enjoy the month of August, and then hit the books along with CLEP/DANTES.

I hope so - my thoughts are even if particular schools will quibble about the CLEP/DANTES credits, earned college credit is going to look good when applying for scholarships!

Looking at the Into to Computing through DANTES in the fall. If she does well in that, then the MIS CLEP. From my research MIS CLEP is the more difficult of the two, and I like to set her up for success.

That's great Shawn! I hope my own kids will be able to follow that path too. 16 credits after 2 years of high school is awesome!

Hey Shawn, congratulations to your dd. It's wonderful that she's self-motivated and disciplined enough to study on her own like that!

My son isn't interested in doing in CLEPS. I think he would rather be spoon fed the material, although his DL courses seem to be fairly work intensive. :p
