I'm currently studying MBA (Finance) in a B&M University in China and thinking of pursuing a 2nd Masters at the same time, and it will definitely be online though. Any suggestions on what major shall i study for my 2nd Masters to supplement/compliment as i will working in the Finance/Banking industry in future? I will appreciate if you are able to provide me with the university too. Cheapest RA Masters will be appreciated.

That depends. Does your MBA have a concentration? What exactly do you want to do in the finance and banking industry? If it is management oriented, a M.A. in Management might be a good selection. If it's more accounting or auditing based, the CPA would probably be your best bet. If you're directing others, perhaps Leadership would b a good choice.

My currently MBA concentration will be Finance, so i am thinking of what will be good for my 2nd Masters. I will be leading towards more on CFA rather than CPA though, but that will be more on certification. If i am to studying M.A in Management. Will that really add credibility to the job i am applying since i already have experience in Banking? or shall i take MBA in Law etc.?

    A more fundamental question

Why do you think you need supplement/compliment for your MBA in Finance? do you think your MBA is still lack of something you need? What do you think you need?

There are quite a number of options, in terms of fields, existing already:
    - Finance, and Quantitative Finance
    - Management
    - Law

Each of these could come up into a long list by itself. So it's better first to identify what you want to go for.

I would recommend you go for Master of Science in Management at Liberty University. (1) The management degree can gain you the leadership/management role later in your career. Of course, you don't want to do finance all your life; and one day you have to move up the the management position. (2) Liberty University accepts transfer and NA credits.

Why would you think you would need more than an MBA Finance to get a job in banking?

Thanks for your thoughts. But does it mean that by graduating with a MBA in Finance. I won't not be able to gain into Management role successfully??? I believed for management role, the MBA (Finance) shall be sufficient to gain me direct entry to management position with years of experiences. But of course, with a management degree, that will give me additional push to management role.

No. I think an MBA Finance is more than enough to get a job in banking, especially i already have 5 years of banking experiences. That is not an issue but what i am thinking is a better path for me in future. Getting into management role or better position in banking, like Fund Manager, or a VP in management etc..i'm also thinking to teach after that.

Oh! Sorry I'm so dense! I'm not sure whether you would absolutely need it to get into management, but either an MA in Management or an MS in Management would make a nice complement to the MBA in Finance. On the other hand, the MBA in Finance plus your years of experience might be all you need to get into management and/or land adjuncting positions.

I've always been lead to believe that an MBA and MSM are so related that the MSM would be redundant. An MBA is already a management degree.

Yeah, I'm not so sure you really NEED a second masters degree for your particular job field. Now, if you want to take one for FUN, that's a different story altogether.

For example, I plan to get a MA in Communications, and a second one in History, just for sh*ts and giggles (actually, I really enjoy history).

    Hey Kozen,

What was your experience like as far as transferring you American NA degree into a Chinese University?

for Fund manager, or VP, I would suggest looking at their job ads and see what kind of qualifications they require. I don't think they need more than a master degree for academic qualification. Work experience looks more important.

For positions like senior management positions, people networking is more important (I think you must know very well on what GuanXi means to do business in China). Would you consider Executive MBA programmes? this is likely where you might meet some more like-minded and resourceful people? :) EMBA is an expensive to enter. However, the more expensive it is, it means the richer your classmates likely to be, or more "valuable" to the company so that their companies want to sponsor them. :)

To teach, depending on where you want to teach, PhD would be needed for teaching at university.

So good so far. I do not have a problem in getting a job or even transferring into a Chinese University so long it's an accredited degree recognised by DOE and CHEA. Recognition in Asia or even South-East Asia are not as complicated as in USA as the only requirement is it's accredited by a accrediting agency recognized by its Home Government (DOE & CHEA). Most countries in Asia or South-East Asia do have a standardized education systems. It's not as complicated as in USA, which still have to depends on individual States to accept its (NA/RA) degree though it's still a accredited degree recognized by DOE/CHEA.

There are alternates to another masters degree.
One is to join a professional body that supports your professional goals.
For example you could join the UK Chartered Management Institute at various member levels (I believe they accept members worldwide)
