Keep in mind that while most of these course have been evaluated by ACE as being worth 3 hours of college credit, many are worth only 1 or 2. Others are worth 3 in one area of study but only 2 in another. For example, Info Literacy is worth 1 hour. Math for Business and Finance is worth 3 hours as a Business Math course, or 2 hours as a marketing course. Before taking Penn Foster courses that you intend to transfer to other instutions, you should check the ACE website for the course by course credit recommendations. Pug
ayayay Pug that is tricky... how do you know if its worth 2 or 3 credits depending on the area? is that decided by the receiving institution? i.e excelsior, tesc or is it listed somewhere? also do you know if some Penn Foster classes count as upper level credit? thanks!
The ACE CREDIT National Guide is online and searchable for free, and has details on numbers of credits, level and subject for every credit recommendation it makes.
Yup, consult the online guide at ACE. It spells everything out and most institutions follow the recommendations, but not always. For example, the ACE recommendation for Math for Business and Finance is 3 hours in Business Math, but TESC does not count it as a math course at all, it's counted as a business course. Schools that accept ACE will be able to tell you in advance where the class will be applied. I called TESC before almost every Penn Foster course and gave them the corresponding ACE course number, they'd math it up on their chart and tell me exactly how it would be applied. Pug
Course Price How much are the courses from Education Direct? I am interested in some of the courses they offer.
The school is no longer known as Education Direct. Their "new" name is Penn Foster College. The college credit courses cost approximately $55 per credit hour.
Thanks to all of you who have provided information about ACE evaluated courses available from Penn Foster College. My brother wants to earn a degree in social work. The brick-and-mortar school that he wants to attend requires the equivalent of an associates degree (60 credit hours / 20 3-credit courses) prior to application.
Since sentinel's question is answered and it was brought up about ACE credit recommendations I would like to paste one of the ACE descriptions and see what everyone feels would be the appropriate credit granted for one of the Penn Foster courses. The course was completed this year. To me it seems like Version 1 would give 2 credits in MIS or Data Processing and 1 in MIS or IT, and Version 2 would only give 1 credit in MIS or IT. Does that seem correct? It almost seems like its missing the 2 credit distinction for MIS or data processing.
List Sentinel I have the old list in .pdf format from ed direct. I am not sure how many courses they have added because the list is a few years old, but I'm sure it's pretty close. I can't post it here because it is 270kb and the forum limits file size, but if you want pm me your email and I can shoot you a copy, Justin
Hi all! I am a new member to this site. I did do a search and found this thread. I have only a few hours at the local community college (6 total hours). I have been fortunate enough to be pretty successful in my professional career without a degree. However, I would eventually like to obtain a degree for personal satisfaction...not to mention my marketability should my current situation ever change. For my own personal development I have looked at Penn Foster's Human Resources Certificate. I see that most of the courses that make up the Certificate (there are only 7) have an ACE credit recommendation on the National Guide website. When I called and spoke to an Advisor they told me the program would not transfer any college credit and that they were only CEU's. However, I was under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that many colleges will accept ACE approved courses for college credit. Can anyone help me clarify this? If I enroll in this class and knock out the certificate quickly not only would it likely help me in practical application at my job, but if I could use the credits (even as electives if nothing else) toward a degree...then to me that is a double whammy! Here are the courses: BUS110 Principles of Management HRM201 Human Resource Management HRM210 Compensation Management ENG010 Business English HRM355 Training Concepts HRM320 Employee Benefits HRM350 Labor Relations I really appreciate the assistance. There is a ton of great info on this website. I apologize if I've overlooked an obvious answer but I am pretty new to this distance learning thing.
