Apparently, at the November 5-7, 2008 meeting of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, they issued a Show Cause statement to Pacific Oaks College, which means that Pacific Oaks College's accreditation will be terminated as of April 15, 2010 unless the college can show cause why this should not happen. Apparently, this prospective loss of accreditation has to do with financial difficulties. Pacific Oaks College is seeking a merger partner.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I wish Pacific Oaks College www.pacificoaks.edu well in their struggle for continued existence.

online MA or MEd with teacher certification

    Ted,

I would start another thread but I don't know how to do it. I would be happy if you decide to do so.

You seem so knowledgeable. I have done some work and I have found a few possibilities but I have the feeling that there are a lot of possibilities that I don't know about.

My daughter will very soon graduate with her RA American B.A. degree. We are Canadian and we live in Vietnam where I am a school principal of an American curriculum based international school. She wants to get an online masters degree in education with American teacher certification. The teaching practicum would have to be done in my school.

I have found an alternate online teacher certification process without a degree that looks fine (ABCTE). I have also found APU's online M.Ed. with teacher certification which looks good as well.

What other possibilities are there that could work for her? What are the prices since we are working for a NGO and are a little less than affluent?

    Thank you.

    Sidney

    Sidney,

The way to start a new thread is to back up to the page where it shows a bunch of thread titles and in the top left corner of your screen is a button that says New Thread. Just click on that and write your thread-starting post and then hit Submit.

    Lamar university

Just a warning about Lamar's program.....I entered the program and soon found myself regretting it. They do not answer phone when you call, they have no fail safe system for correspondence with students when registering, or if you have questions, etc, and overall treated me with a great lack of respect. From what I have now learned, they have become too big, too soon, and just do not have the manpower to take care of the amount of students in the programs. 2 of my colleagues have entered the program, and 1 had the exact same issues as I did. I would not recommend them to anyone. Needless to say I got out of the program quickly. It was a nightmare I would like to soon forget, and am now on to searching for more options for my master's degree.

Ps. I also made my complaints known to the executive director, and was told they knew of the problems and issues that I had faced, yet I never heard her say that that were steadfastly working to improve them. Nor was she apologetic for the whole disaster that was my experience. She seemed to have a "oh well" attitude about the whole thing. Buyer BEWARE!

My Alma Mater, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has a fully online Master of Arts in Education Curriculum and Instruction program that is very reasonable. The cost is aprox. 323.00 per credit hour no matter if you have in or out of state residence. It is a really wonderful school and the professors in the college of education are excellent (I had most of them :0) ). Good luck!! Here is the link....
