As far as I know, Dave Thomas never graduated from any college or university. He was actually a high school dropout, but he completed a GED program in 1993. I don't know how he came to be involved with Duke, but he contributed millions of dollars to the school over his lifetime, including a single $4 million gift that built the conference center that bears his name.

On a related note, J.B. Fuqua, for whom the b-school at Duke is named, also never went to Duke, at least not in the traditional sense. As a child, Fuqua wrote to several university libraries asking if he could borrow books by mail. Duke's library was the only one that bothered to answer his letters, and for the rest of his childhood and into his adult life, he cultivated a relationship with Duke's lending library, whch would send him books on various topics he was interested in, including business. He later repaid their kindness with a $10 million dollar gift to found Duke's business school. He was very active in the Duke community, and attended every single Fuqua International MBA retreat (annual Duke MBA conference, held all over the world - this year's is in Moscow in May) until his death in 2006.

Good idea. He should go to a school that's free and donate the money he would have spent on the poor of the Middle East.

BTW, the final exam for the MBA at BTH is in English, as are all the other exams and everything else in the program. In Sweden, as in several of the smaller countries in Europe, almost all graduate education is in English, or at least available in English.

There are only about 9 million Swedish speakers in the world and if exams were in Swedish, no foreign students would enroll. Educated Swedes, of course, speak English fluently. Even Danes and Norwegians usually speak English when speaking to Swedes

In a thread where the OP specifically asked for a MBA with a "great reputation", why would you even post all these NA degrees?

Seems like you might do more harm than help, causing people to spend their time looking into these schools when they obviously do not meet the specified criteria.

To allow each individual to decide for themselves which degree is best for them. Did you miss what I said in post #17?

It's not a matter of deciding. There's no opinion involved in the fact that, justifiably or not, the majority of universities in the US do not perceive a NA MBA as legitimate graduate academic work. Someone can not decide these MBAs have a "great reputation". They do not, period.

I think it is very important to be clear about such things. After all, choosing an school is a big decision, and it must be done with correct and complete information.

Some NA schools might defensibly be said to have great reputations in their niches. Full Sail University, ACCSCT, in SACS country where a few schools that might be regional elsewhere don't meet SACS' often exacting input-based requirements, might have a great reputation in the entertainment business. I'm not in that business and can't speak to Full Sail from any inside knowledge, but it would be believable if it did.

And Ted made his parameters, that he wouldn't filter himself by his personal assessment of the most prestigious or best, clear before he started posting his extensive and valuable lists. It is not how I would have answered the original poster's question. But his point is that it takes all kinds.

OK. Zaya's thread about the best MBA degree(s) is now officially "stuck." While there's no clear prohibition about debate within a stuck thread let's try to remember that stuck threads are stuck so that people can do research more easily. Some debates might be continued in other, separate, threads. Along those same lines I'd simply like to point out that what makes one school the "best" choice for you might not work so well for me. In matters of opinion we don't necessarily need to agree and we don't necessarily need to argue. Let the games begin!

From the Great State of Arkansas

The only (remotely) business-related online master's program that I could find in the great State of Arkansas was the University of Arkansas Little Rock's www.ualr.edu MS in Information Quality. At $270/hr. in-state and $555/hr. out-of-state, total program tuition comes to $8,910 for instaters and $18,315 for out-of-staters.

PS1 - Thank you for the sticky, Kizmet!

PS2 - Well, it is late at night and "From the Great State of Calkifornia" is a long list and I still need to find what happened to my hand-scribbled notes. Good night, everyone!

Congratulations! That's one state that you saved me having to do!

EDIT: So, at $550/hr. for 30 hrs., total tuition is $16,500 and the UW MBA is also professionally accredited by the AACSB International. That's got to be one heck of a deal!

The Duke-Goethe thing is not that bad:
#1 The General Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is not required. Applicants will be asked to submit the GMAT only if it is not possible to assess quantitative proficiency based on academic and/or professional experience.
#2 Tuition is 46.000 Euro for the entire program. (A 15% tuition discount will be granted to applicants who submit a completed application by the first deadline of January 15, 2009.)

    A Couple of Technical Questions?

Is it possible to hit a save button while composing a post?
Is there still a word limit for individual posts?

  20. Kizmet

    Kizmet Moderator

Wow Ted! - I just glanced at your last post and so I know why you're asking. Nice stuff! Here are my answers. I don't know and I don't know.

I am unaware of any "save" button. I believe that there is a word limit but right this moment I can't tell you what it is. I can check it out though. My immediate suggestion is that you compose such postings as word documents and then paste them into your posting. That way, if it doesn't all fit then you can just set up another post and fit it in there. Thanks for the contributions.
