What grinds your gears?

Okay, so this is a take on one of the Family Guy episodes where Peter gets a job on the local news station as a guy that rants about what bothers him. I thought it would be interesting to hear from those that frequent this board on what really bothers them.

You know what really grinds my gears?

People that pull up to let their kids off at school in the morning, but they only pull up far enough to let their kids off while there is a line of traffic behind them waiting to do the same. I drop my son off in the morning on my way to work and every morning it’s the same thing. Rather than pull up a couple car lengths, these parents stop right in front of the door. The problem is the parent behind them can’t let their kids out because you are essentially dropping your kids off in a parking lot. If these parents would pull forward a little, there is a side walk for kids to walk on and you could get twice the number of cars through in the same amount of time. You know, that really grinds my gears.

Someone who doesn't understand the importance of spelling and checking their spelling. I believe anyone with a formal education should be required to pass at LEAST a rigorous high school level spelling exam. No offense to anyone in this forum, but when I watch people participate in forums, it is very hard for me not to cringe when I see blatant spelling errors. I don't mind grammatical errors, as most forums are utilized in a conversational manner, but bad spelling really gets to me.

Considering that Firefox checks your spelling for you automatically when you type into a text area (like this one, right now), I agree that there's no excuse for it.

I go easier on non-native speakers of English, though. Given all the irregularities, I'm very happy that it was my first language!

This irritates me as well. I like to read various fitness forums as well as DL forums. The people posting on the fitness forums are the worst overall when it comes to grammar and spelling. It is extremely frustrating to see the way people write. I usually check for spelling and grammar using MS Word before I make a post.

Trying to buy a gallon of milk at the local quickie mart, while some fool in front of me spends 10 minutes buying scratch tickets and daily number chances, oblivious to the dozen people waiting in line. I used to drive way out of my way to go to the one Store 24 that didn't have the lottery, but they succumbed also recently.

Slowing down to allow a fellow traveler safe passage into your lane and no courtesy wave to say thank you.

I understand where you're coming from, but I give a little flexibility towards those without any formal college level education. Many people I have dealt with in the Fitness Industry only have a High School Diploma and Fitness Certificates.

Lottery: Tax on people who are bad at math

At least those fools are shelling out to keep your taxes from getting higher. But yeah, it's too bad they don't have a vending machine for that or something.

One that drives me up a wall is when people use big words incorrectly. One in particular that I keep hearing is "reticent". People, it's not a synonym for "reluctant"!

Oh, I'm all for keeping taxes down, I just wish there were a seperate line or as you mentioned, a vending machine.

    Bruce,

What if the person wins the big one? You wouldn't that person to wait one second more than necessary to collect their money. And besides, you should want to be there to witness the event. :D

A winning ticket or a massive heart attack? :p

Good question. I guess after waiting 10 minutes the massive heart attack may be more appealing to those in line. :D

Scratching off 10 lottery tickets at the quickie mart, and having some jerk behind me trying to rush me through just so he can get a precious gallon of milk home. Come on people! just another minute so I can win my millions!!!

I wonder if the ticket-scratcher would speed things up if you showed him your badge.

Someone a few cars ahead of me who slows down our lane by continuously letting cars in ahead of him in order to be "nice."

Hopefully you're not typing this as your driving behind this person. ;)

When a cigarette smoking fool has the cell phone in same hand while driving one of those "big-assed" chevy "subdivisions" and swerves into your lane!
