Ahh, thanks for explaining it. That's what I wasn't able to figure out from the website.

I'm disappointed I didn't know about this program sooner. I don't think I want to wait until the next cohort starts in 2010.

    Regarding University of Wyoming:

Drats! It looks as though I just missed out again. The application deadline for Fall was January 6.

It's still unclear to me whether this EdD is a distance program. I will call them tomorrow and post here anything I find out.

Other than Capella and Walden, which you already know about, and TAMU, just mentioned, the only other one I could find was Regent University's EdD in Educational Psychology www.regent.edu/acad/schedu/academics/edd/ed_psych .

Go to the first link given http://ed.uwyo.edu/Doc_Studies.asp . Under the section "EdD in Education," the first sentence of the second paragraph reads: "The key difference between the PhD and the EdD is the latter's lack of a residency requirement."

Well, so far we've covered all the distance doctorates in education from Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, New Mexico, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming. But we still have Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania to go. And that's just the US-based programs.

It appears that the Tedmeister may have made a mis-statement. Whereas the Tedmeister mentioned Regent in post 18 (while quoting Steve Foerster's mention of Liberty in post 4), it seems that might not be all of the distance doctoral programs in education that the great state of Virginia has to offer. Old Dominion University www.odu.edu offers the PhD in Community College Leadership and the PhD in Occupational and Technical Studies via streaming video. The PhD in Occupational and Technical Studies offers further emphases in Career and Technical Education, Human Resources and Training, and Technology Education. The PhD in Community College Leadership requires 18 hours for the concentration, 12 hours research, 9 hours of electives, a 3-hour experience requirement, and a 9 to 12 hour dissertation, for a total of 51 to 54 hours. The PhD in Occupational and Technical Studies requires a 12 hour core, 24-30 hours for the concentration, 12 hours in the emphasis area, a 12-15 hour capstone, and possibly 15 hours of pre-reqs, for a total of 60-84 hours. In-state tuition is $304/hour while out-of-state tuition is $761/hour. Thus, the in-stater would pay $15,504-$16,416 for the PhD in Community College Leadership or $18,240-$25,536 for the PhD in Occupational and Technical Studies while the out-of-stater would pay $38,811-$41,094 for the PhD in Community College Leadership or $45,660-$63,924 for the PhD in Occupational and Technical Studies.
