Does anybody have any recent knowledge about Greenleaf University and/or their ABD (i.e., doctoral completion) program? (I'm fairly certain that we have discussed this school associated with Norman Pearson in the past, but I didn't see anything in Search. Bears Guide has a brief, non-glowing discussion of Greenleaf.)

I recently saw the name mentioned on another board. They are believed to be working toward regional accreditation with North Central.

That's not what accreditation is, and they can't possibly not know that. Misrepresenting accreditation is a classic sign of a mill.

That will happen roughly around the time that I'm elected president of Mars.

Greenleaf University is not a regionally accredited school. Just FYI. :)

That's because they are listed here:

Legally, "GREENLEAF UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL STUDIES, AN AMERICAN GRADUATE SCHOOL" is registered with the State of Missouri as a Non-Profit Corporation, not as an institution of higher education. So it may not even be eligible for accreditation.

It seems that the exaggerated claim of work toward regional accreditation is up, up, and away, in my beautiful, my beautiful, b a l l o o n..., if they aren't even registered as an institution of higher learning in MO.

I believe that if you are legitimately pursuing accreditation then one of the rules is you can not talk about the fact that you are pursuing accreditation…

Not exactly. DETC, because it doesn't have a candidacy status, prefers its applicants not make any forward-looking statements regarding accreditation.

I'm not so sure the regionals have the same policy, especially since they not only award candidacy status, but also correspondent status to those schools that seem to meet--on paper--the requirements for accreditation.

Finally, none of this is written in stone. It would be reasonable for a school to acknowledge it has submitted an application for accreditation by the DETC, since DETC themselves publish this information. But saying anything about their likelihood of success might cause them some trouble with DETC.

What is candidacy status and why doesn’t DETC have it?

Most accreditation agencies grant accreditation candidacy status to schools that are being reviewed for possible accreditation. In the case of DETC, they have applicant status. Apparently the difference is that with accreditation candidacy status, there has been some preliminary review and the school has been found worthy of further investigation for possible accreditation while with accreditation applicant status at DETC, anybody can apply for accreditation and thus become an accreditation applicant.

I know there is a member of this forum own Greenleaf University; however, I don't know if he is still an active member. He posted a message about several years ago and stated that he is the owner.

IT'S NOT A UNIVERSITY! It's a business pretending to be a university. Like Knightsbridge, Palmers Green, and hundreds of others.

To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as a legitimate "ABD program." If I'm wrong I'm willing to learn but you're going to have to show me.

I have seen schools state their candidacy status (for regional accreditation) when they are going though the process, both the Art Institute(Pittsburgh) and the University of Advancing Technology are examples. The Art Institute was very hard to find (in their catalog) where as UAT was right on their website.

    Motto?

I like that they felt it necessary to include on their website that, "OUR MOTTO IS: First Things First"

    What the...!?
